Re: Orange on Olive - 18 years ago
Quotevas Another suggestion is regarding the background. It can have a less intrusive design. It distarcts reading the topics. Well, I have to disagree with you there - I don't feel distracted. I probably will not make the background of this template less bold, as that is the essence of this template. If I changed the background, I feel I would be creating a different template. Re: Orange on Olive - 18 years ago
Quotevas I installed the template and find it is a good start. But 1 or 2 suggestions. There is no waay to reach the control center in this template. A link is required in the index page. Also if you can add admin.php link (which is displayes only for admin), it will look good. {forum title} displayed even while it is updated in the admin. Good suggestions. I think you can reach the control ceby jrevillini - v5/v6 Templates
Re: spamhurdles giving me balls - 18 years ago
No, I'm using the stock options as far as spamhurdles goes. Well, I figured out how to conquer their new "feature" which was to add a php.ini file in the phorum directory: open_basedir = / Nice huh? They change their mothereffing security settings, don't tell anyone, get called on it, lie, and the solution turns out to be a PHP-dot-mothereffing-INI override?! Re: spamhurdles giving me balls - 18 years ago
They're telling me they didn't change anything on their servers. Before I start getting crazy with ese, tell me: is there ANY reason you can think of that would suddenly cause the application to go into the mods/spamhurdles/defaults.php onto line 40? I definitely didn't enable or disable any mods ... the only thing I can think of is if you guys put in something like "donby jrevillini - Phorum Support
spamhurdles giving me balls - 18 years ago
Out of the blue, I'm getting this like 4 times at the top of every page of my forum: Warning: file_exists() : open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/bin/flite) is not within the allowed path(s): ('.:/proc/uptime:/tmp:/home:/usr/local/lib/php:/nfs/home:/usr/home:/usr/local/bin/') in path/to/public_html/elumen/forum/mods/spamhurdles/defaults.php on line 40 I'm thinking iby jrevillini - Phorum Support
Re: Large images not shown completely - 18 years ago
Find '#phorum div.message-body' in templates/{your template}/css.tpl. It will look something like this: #phorum div.message-body { ... ... overflow: hidden; ... ... } Then just change the word "hidden" to "visible". Of course, doing this violates a number of international laws, but there you go.by jrevillini - Phorum Support
Re: PDA's ? or other small screens - 18 years ago
Another thing to consider for PDA's would be using an RSS Reader for PDA devices if you really only need to read posts on the device. For example, I use google's mobile rss reader, and I have subscribed to my site's feed for topics and replies. For the 800x600 issue, you could install a different template. For example, the orange on olive one that i designed is 750px wide. Iby jrevillini - Phorum Support

And keep in mind that there's a bug in the WITH REPLIES feed in 5.2.6a. That thread also has the workaround.by jrevillini - Phorum Support

Re: Phorum SVN Test Results - 18 years ago
Quotets77About SVN ... did you check the trac wiki? ;) I did but I'm obviously going blind in my old age! Add this to the wiki style sheet and I should be all set: a { font-size: 400%; } Now I'm really psyched that i can send real patches! wooooooo! Re: Phorum SVN Test Results - 18 years ago
The thing of it is, I'm not sure that the main dev team should be responsible for writing Selenium tests for an open source system. If you can, great! But that's what we're all here for. Every user person who puts Phorum on their server is testing the software, in much the same way that a Linux or Windows desktop user is ... * CRASH * Would you like to send this error report toby jrevillini - Phorum Development
Re: Phorum SVN Test Results - 18 years ago
Hi Miles, I'm not on the dev team, but I get the feeling that they're pretty busy with development of the core and could probably use some volunteers to help with things like writing unit tests. If you have a handle on Selenium, have you considered trying your hand at writing some tests? I would like to get into it some day, but right now my focus is on templates. Re: HTML Compressor: I want to disable it - 18 years ago
@Maurice: I'm a huge proponent of docbook for the same reasons you mentioned. @Thomas, Maurice: Thanks for inviting me to augment the wiki. I'll surely do so.by jrevillini - Phorum Support
Need to output template file name - 18 years ago
In need to output the template name or filename (i'd end up stripping the .tpl off, though) in my template so I can do this: <body class="index_new"> ... (The bold part would be the bit output by the variable)by jrevillini - Phorum Development
Re: HTML Compressor: I want to disable it - 18 years ago
@ts & brian: thanks - perfect. @dev team: Ever give any thought to wikifying the manual so that things like this could be added by regular users, like myself? Secondly, if you have a reason why you would not like to do this on your official site, would you have any problem with me doing it independently?by jrevillini - Phorum Support
HTML Compressor: I want to disable it - 18 years ago
I would like to disable the HTML compressor because I'm debugging a new template on my sandbox phorum install. Where is the setting to change this behavior? Danke!by jrevillini - Phorum Support
{VAR first_pass 1} - 18 years ago
I have P5.2.6a - in emerald's index_new.tpl, there's {VAR first_pass 1} As far as I can tell, the variable never gets used. I'm thinking about ditching that line in the template I'm working on, but I want to know if I should leave it in for forward/backward compatibility or something.by jrevillini - Phorum Development
Re: Orange on Olive - 18 years ago
Thanks, buddy! I'm working on the next one: a port of organic! which is a template for vanilla which ALMOST made me go with vanilla. The deal breaker was that I came across phorum and found that its support forum had answers to questions. hehe.by jrevillini - v5/v6 Templates
Re: Typing in other languages - 18 years ago
@amnesia: no problem! puzzles like this help me come to know phorum a lot better by exploring possible solutions, so it's a benefit to me to try to help, even if my solutions aren't the best. @maurice: yeah, i eventually came around to this solution that you suggested; it just took me awhile :) You'd use the message's 'meta' field for that right?by jrevillini - Phorum Support

Re: Typing in other languages - 18 years ago
Just thought about this again and I think a combo of Maurice's suggestion and mine would be best, assuming that you want to have the country flag based on post ip address. The country ip leases are a little bit volatile, and I guess there's no way of knowing if the ip to country mapping tables would suddenly change one day. Therefore, the country code would need to be established anby jrevillini - Phorum Support
Re: Typing in other languages - 18 years ago
If speed is not a big concern, another way is to geolocate the ip on the fly. I guess it depends on a) if you want your user to manually enter their country, b) if you want the country flag tied to the profile of the user or the country from which the user posted (ooohhh), and c) like I said, you'll sacrifice speed on page loads. I have no idea how much speed you would lose, but it would oby jrevillini - Phorum Support
Re: font-size in textarea - 18 years ago
Thanks for letting me in. If you inspect a textarea on your site with firebug, these are all the styles which affect the textarea. Crossed out items mean that they are overridden by another style and can be ignored. I added the italics - think of them as notes ... they are not part of the stylesheet. element.style { width:99%; } #phorum_textarea {read.php (line 75) font-family:Book Anby jrevillini - Phorum Support

QuotemarcelarrWorked wonders!! Now all I have to figure out is how to get rid of the green on the second circle of the pic. Thanks! Watch the firebug 1.0 beta screencast. It will take 10 minutes of your life and it will save you at least one hundred thousand hours of debugging css issues. Re: Problems changing the green message background in Esmarald template - 18 years ago
Alright, this is one of those cases where maybe manually editing the CSS file would be faster than toying with a module. I'm assuming you just want to get rid of the green and white backgrounds on the header and message header so that it is just black all over. 1. Open templates/emerald/css.tpl. 2. Find background-image: url('{top_background_image}'); and replace it with /by jrevillini - Phorum Support
Re: Problems changing the green message background in Esmarald template - 18 years ago
Did you follow this procedure? Also note this post which discusses the fact that the phorum logo background will NOT change to match the new header background color. You should be aware of this because if you do not want to create a new logo image to match, then you should leave the color scheme as is.by jrevillini - Phorum Support
