Re: Date handling failure - PHP 5.3 - 15 years ago
This was not so clear to me from the error message. I'll have my hosting service fix this ASAP. Thanks very much for your advice, especially on a Sunday morning. It's greatly appreciated.by KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Urgent: Date handling failure - PHP 5.3 - 15 years ago
Quick and dirty fix: date_default_timezone_set("America/New_York"); This line added at the top of format_functions.php seems to solve the problem. Luckily my board is forced to one time zone.by KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Urgent: Date handling failure - PHP 5.3 - 15 years ago
I am also getting this error message on some pages: Warning: strtotime() : It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_Yby KeithX - Phorum Support

Re: Scaling issues - 15 years ago
Been there! Adding RAM is number one, you'll see a performance jump at 4GB or more. I'd probably go for 8GB with that many page displays. Splitting the DB engine to a back-end server gives the next big boost, if your host supports it. Again, kick in for max recommended RAM on the backend.by KeithX - Phorum Support

Re: Extra closing URL tag in 5.2.8 RC2 - 18 years ago
I didn't pick up on the placement aspect, turns out both links I tested were at the end of the message, though one was in the sig line. This fixes my issue. THANK YOU!!!by KeithX - Phorum Support
Extra closing URL tag in 5.2.8 RC2 - 18 years ago
I tried running 5.28 RC2 with bbcode and bbcode_video modules turned on today. Links to HTML pages are automatically "linkified" with the URL and /URL tags added automatically. However after upgrading from RC1 to RC2 an extra closing "/URL" tag is being added to all links, so they all 404. I had to downgrade back to 5.2.8 RC1 because I have no idea where to put in the hackby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: change username - 18 years ago
You're welcome. I did run all the database integrity routines after running the changename script, and things are running just fine still.by KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: change username - 18 years ago
QuoteMaurice Makaay Try if this one works for you. Save this code to fixusername.php or so in your Phorum directory, configure the orange part of the script (user_id and username) and open the script in your browser. Since you need a special character in the username, make sure that you edit the script using the same character set as your Phorum install. <?php // Configure these to yourby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Very important for you(your Cms) - 18 years ago
QuoteMaurice Makaay God damn... I got a lot of moderation to do. Spammed in every forum up here. Oh wait... I got a mass delete tool built for that in the admin. Let's use that for once ;-) toofaan: please refrain from spamming and threatening us in a silly way. Above all, Phorum is not a CMS. Therefore we do not belong on your index. So hereby I tell you that you can remove Phorum if itby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Phorum 5.2.8 RC1 questions - 18 years ago
QuoteMaurice Makaay I just fixed a problem that could be triggered by stale bbcode tags. You could drop the 2.0.6 version of the bbcode mod in the 5.2.8-RC1 module tree to have the bug fixed. The next 5.2.8 release will have the bugfix included. Really appreciate the tip, thanks! Phorum 5.2.8 RC1 questions - 18 years ago
Question one is whether the team is drinking the koolaid here yet, is this forum running on 5.2.7 or the RC? Any reasons I should be concerned about running the RC on a mid-size production site? Or a heavy I/O production site? From reading the release notes it doesn't seem like there were any dramatic changes other than the new BB Code module, everything else looks like relatively simpleby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Cache directory problem when searching - 18 years ago
QuoteThomas Seifert there is nothing used in the filesystem for searches. You are seeing an error about missing permissions for the mysql user in the mysql database. My support team fixed the problem, and it did turn out to be related to the filesystem. When they locked access to the /tmp directory on my server search stopped working, and when they opened that directory back up search starteby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Cache directory problem when searching - 18 years ago
Thanks for your help Thomas! I have double-checked the mysql permissions, and opened a support ticket with my web host regarding the problem. I really appreciate the prompt reply, hopefully they'll be able to fix things today.by KeithX - Phorum Support
Cache directory problem when searching - 18 years ago
I recently moved one of my forums to a new server, and then had the server analyzed by a security specialist who locked it up tight. During that process I had to change the caching settings from "/tmp" to "./cache" and set the cache directory permissions to 777. However, search routine is still throwing errors related to caching. Here's the error message I get: Phorby KeithX - Phorum Support

Re: 5.2.7 Update successful - 18 years ago
5.2.7 definitely seems stable to me. I installed it on my busiest site last Friday, a couple dozen new registrations and 3,000+ posts a day with no problems at all. Running in threaded mode, KISS templates, email confirmation for registration. Active Modules: BBCode, BBCode Video, Empty Bodies, Event Logging, Signature Restrictions, Tidy Output, User Name Restrictions. Thanks to all who contrby KeithX - Phorum Development
5.2.7 Update successful - 18 years ago
I completed an update from 5.2.6 to 5.2.7 this morning on a relatively low-volume site, and after having users kick it for a few hours, it appears to have worked perfectly. Not sure where you like to get this sort of feedback, the dev forum seemed like the place. Thanks!by KeithX - Phorum Development
Bulk Message Pruning - 18 years ago
One of my forums generates thousands of disposable posts per day, so to optimize MySQL performance I need to dump old posts once a week. I ran into an anomaly when using the 5.2 pruning feature. Using "match all", I first set the "forum" to "my forum name" and then set the "message date" to "posted on or before" and put in a date. That finds alby KeithX - Phorum Support
Re: Removing "Re:" from subject title in replies? - 18 years ago
Edit the posting.tpl template file. Just before {HOOK "tpl_editor_after_subject"} change this: {LANG->Subject}:<br /> <input type="text" name="subject" id="subject" size="50" value="{POSTING->subject}" /><br /> <br /> To this:by KeithX - Phorum Hack/Mod Requests
Re: Help Getting a Phorum to look like this - 18 years ago
Thank you Masked Man, I'm gonna have to send you more money soon! My threaded chat with 3.x was 70% hack and 30% phorum, using 5.2 it's two lines of code and my own template set (KISS Threads). Someday soon I'll figure out how to code modules, but every time I think of something you already have a module for it lolby KeithX - v5/v6 Templates
Re: Help Getting a Phorum to look like this - 18 years ago
I can recommend using the basic Emerald template as a starting point. I found it to be very solid code throughout, and only had to work on a handful of template files to get the features and look I needed for a stripped down threaded chat style. I'm not familiar with the orange/olive template, but it could easily be just as good a starting point. Most of the look and feel settings areby KeithX - v5/v6 Templates
Re: Phorum SVN Test Results - 18 years ago
Based on real-world stress testing this past Wednesday night I have to say that I am *very* pleased with the performance of the 5.2.6 version. 20,000+ read and write requests in one hour and it didn't blink or stutter at all. Many thanks to all who contributed to the code!by KeithX - Phorum Development
Re: Ban list management idea - 18 years ago
QuotemmakaayI added the changes to the core trees (both 5.2 and trunk). See changeset 3104. Instead of a char field I used a text field in the database, so I could use a textarea for comments. I also added scripts for upgrading the database automatically. If you want to give this update a go, then download a recent snapshot and install it. The database upgrade is not a big one. Many thanks tby KeithX - Phorum Development
Re: Ban list management idea - 18 years ago
I appreciate the status info and the pointer to the ticket. Personally I would put that back to Normal instead of Low, based on having 2,000 or so users who need a spanking every once in a while. Maybe I'll take a hack at it one of these days and submit the code after I get it working. And then again maybe I'll keep on being too busy to get to it too lol. Thanks!by KeithX - Phorum Development
Ban list management idea - 18 years ago
One thing I have discovered that I need is the ability to make comments about items on the ban list. I realize that asking for a new field is not generally happy news for developers, sorry guys! It would be much easier to track things if there was a 50 char or so comment field on the bans admin form. The purpose would be to allow a sysop to log the "when, why, who" whenever a particuby KeithX - Phorum Development
Re: Bad Words file (English) for Censor List - 18 years ago
Quotets77well, we got a bug tracking system for telling us about bugs instead of posting rude messages or posting them in some other message where they might get lost. Sorry I was trying to be humorous, not rude, but didn't do such a good job of that. It won't happen again. And thanks for the link to the bug tracker, somehow I never saw that before.by KeithX - v5/v6 Templates
Re: Bad Words file (English) for Censor List - 18 years ago
Change 3503 fixes the censor list issue on subject lines, I just tested it. Simple text replacement sounds better in some ways, but if it doesn't work on subject lines then it is of no help to me. The Net Nanny people look for the real words, not the spaced out versions, at least that has been my experience with them. If you keep the basic bad words off your board then people can read itby KeithX - v5/v6 Templates
