Modules are small packages that increase or change the functionality of Phorum in some way, without changing any of the main Phorum code.

Any ideas on the settings being deleted issue? Its happend twice today.by Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons

QuoteCBiLL This module still have a bug for me where if I set it to Administrator viewable only and change a few other settings that after a couple of hours it reverse back to module's default setting. I have no idea why it does that but it reproducable for me every time however it take a couple of hours before it would happen. Module: Customize User List - 18 years ago
This very simple module changes the user lists in things like the Group Moderation and Send Private Message dropdowns (and the list generated by the Online Users module). You pick a field from the user's profile (including custom fields), and it adds that into the list. For example, if you had the username "Tridus" and picked user_id, you'd see this in the dropdown: Tridusby Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Group moderation bug - 18 years ago
I've noticed a bug with the CC Group Moderation function. If you try to add a user to a group from the dropdown, with the Phorum option "What to use as the display name" set to "Real Name", you get an error about how the user can't be found. The problem is that the dropdown's VALUE field is the user's username, but the code is looking for display_name inby Chris Eaton - Phorum Support
Re: Allowing registered members to post unmoderated. - 18 years ago
For the setup, you don't actually have to edit anything. Just go into your Phorum's Admin page, then go to modules, and settings for Pre Approval. Pick "All Registered Users" and it will do what you ask. Honestly that should be in the module description, I forgot it could do that. :)by Chris Eaton - Phorum Support
Template cache problem - 18 years ago
I've got three templates (named emerald, neronb, and neronb-green). Users are allowed to pick which one they want in their control panel. Some of them are having a problem where if phorum's cache is enabled for stylesheet data (using a ./cache folder with chmod 777), some of the pages don't actually respect the new setting. They get the correct logo and other changes, but colorby Chris Eaton - Phorum Support
Re: Module: Named Posting - 18 years ago
Another new version: - Unregistered users should work properly now (mod ignores them) - Preview works better. The name that shows up in the preview post is still wrong, however the author name the user put in is carried through to the new editor. - For some reason I forgot to check if an author was actually set, allowing for posts with no name. This is fixed.by Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Re: Module: Named Posting - 18 years ago
Yep, that got it working. Thanks for your help. :) (Updated version up top shortly.)by Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Re: Module: Named Posting - 18 years ago
I've got it working in the way you described. It works pretty well, except for recent_author, which takes the value of author. There doesn't seem to be a hook in phorum_update_thread_info, so I'm looking at putting some code in using the after_post hook to correct it manually.by Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Re: Module: Named Posting - 18 years ago
Oh is that what did it? Good to know, thanks. :) The way I have this working is that you can actually put whatever name you want in as an author. The two profiles are just for defaults, but since people can have multiple characters they can simply change the name accordingly without setting up new profiles. So what I'd wind up doing is storing whatever name they used in the post meta databy Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Module: Named Posting - 18 years ago
This module turns off Phorum's behaviour of setting the author on posts equal to the poster's username. Instead, it lets the poster put in something else as an author name. It has options for setting two default names (along with two signatures, if the signature option is enabled). Forums can be designated as using the primary or alternate profile. When someone makes a post, the authby Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Module: Pre-Approved Posters - 18 years ago
This module lets you pick a group that bypasses moderation rules. The typical usage scenario is if you have a moderated forum (posts need approval before showing up), but you want to give trusted users the ability to bypass approval. It works using Phorum's groups, you pick a group and everybody in it can bypass moderator approval. (Basically unchanged from the 5.0 version except the hby Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Re: Module: Online Users - 18 years ago
Wow, so glad to see someone ported this up to 5.2. :) Sucks that I don't have time to do anything these days. :(by Chris Eaton - v5/v6 Modules/Add-Ons
Re: Named Posting (and multiple names/signatures) Module - 20 years ago
That was fast! Very minor bugfix.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: Named Posting (and multiple names/signatures) Module - 20 years ago
More would be helpful, but thats really more of a profile mod. This particular mod isn't meant to be that complicated, so I guess its not good for your purposes. :) edit - Rheo, this doesn't affect private messages at all. This is just the name that appears on a post in the forum. PMs don't have an "author" field (they're always from the username in question), soby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: Online Users Module - 20 years ago
19 pages? Good lord. :) Sorry for being gone so long, I was given a copy of World of Warcraft as a present and it sucked away my life. :) I'll have to get a copy of 5.1 up and running somewhere to see whats up here, but its nice to see tis is still being used in some form.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: Module Localizaiton - 21 years ago
All it should take is creating the language file. The module is already localized, so you shouldn't even have to disable/enable the module for it to take effect. The way it works is that when the lang hook is run, it tries to load a language file in /mods/some_mod/lang/langfile.php, where langfile.php is the name of the language file that is already loaded. If it can't find that fby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: Avatar Module - 21 years ago
Inside the user's metadata there should be a mod_avatar entry, where one of the values is the fileID of the users default avatar. You'll want to get that id, and then build a URL in allusers.php that uses it to grab the file. I believe its file.php?0,fileIDby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: Email All Posts module - 21 years ago
Requiring the master address is actually a throwback to the original version, when thats the only option there was. I added the ability to specify an address for each forum at the request of somebody else, and obviously didn't test it well enough. :) I know that I only ues the master functionality myself, since I watch over the entire forum that I run. Please feel free to make any improveby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: MySQL: Database and user configuration problem - 21 years ago
There is a line in config.php where you specify what database you want Phorum to use.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: Turning off Report This Message - 21 years ago
Right now you would just remove the link. In Phorum 5.1 reports are on a seperate page where the user can type in a comment indicating *why* they reported the post, which makes them far more useful.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: return username - 21 years ago
Use print_var on the result you get from phorum_user_get, and it will show you everything that is in there. Username is one of the values.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: User Rank Module - 21 years ago
There is no SQL to modify, as user ranks are not stored for a user. They're calculated on the fly whenever a post is read. So to use the module as is, you would have to setup an array in the format it expects (which is tricky since it expects an array of messages on its hook) and let it return the results by calling the function directly. Either that, or the module has to be changed toby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: change date language. - 21 years ago
Couldn't you just change the date strings in your language file to the new format? $PHORUM['long_date']="%B %e, %Y %I:%M%p"; $PHORUM['short_date']="%D %I:%M%p";by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: Avatar Module - 21 years ago
It should work if your PHP setup allows url fopen wrappers, which is a confugration option. I did it that way because it was far easier then loading the things and writing them to the cache at the time, but ts77 added some file caching functions recently to solve the problem. So at some point when I start working on the module again, I'll use that and this problem should go away.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: users cant edit posts - 21 years ago
User post edit time limit should be disabled when its set to 0, so they should always be able to edit. Setting it to 1 means they can edit for 1 minute after the post is created, which is probably not what you are intending. Based on those settings they should be able to edit, so I'm not sure whats going on. There is a check I believe in read.php that determines if the edit links should bby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: Strange error on admin change - 21 years ago
That is really really bizzare. The only way that error should come up is if the server is trying to send something back that your client won't accept. Since the server is sending text/html most likely, any web browser basically has to accept it or be totally useless. Although I read somewhere that language negotiation can be involved, maybe the server has that enabled and its looking forby Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Support
Re: Avatar Module - 21 years ago
Ok... thats a new one. I can't see how you could possibly get a 401 out of anything I did, Phorum doesn't do HTTP Authentication so it should never throw that error up. Do you have a .htaccess file or something funny like that?by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
Re: New message count next to "new" in list view - 21 years ago
Creating a language file is really easy, you should consider doing it. It'll also handle upgrades to the module much better then hacking the module code will.by Chris Eaton - 5.1 Phorum Modules / Add-Ons
