Re: Phorum - IBM DB2 9.5.2 port - 15 years ago
My two cents, might be worth less to you guys, is that an OO approach is too big a change. In my opinion use of MySql has caused "non-standard SQL" to be used. Had postgresql, or something like it, been the starting point then more "generic" sql would have been used. This would have lead to it being easier to port to other databases. Why do I say this, well for one thinby chas_martel - Phorum Development

Do you think your work would be a good start point for a postgresql effort? I've always wanted postgresql support but it has never really happened. Given a good and more general SQL code base (than the current postgresql code) I'd be willing to transmorgrify it to postgresql.by chas_martel - Phorum Development
Re: PostgreSQL - 16 years ago
Quotedomdorn hey guys.. whats the current state of the postgresql db-layer? is it running anywhere stable? if so, I would suggest to finally try backporting it to the phorum source or create a repo (e..g on github) to maintain the further development. IF you have anything new I would love to test it. I'm very very much interested in a working postgresql layer. I don't hby chas_martel - Phorum Development
Re: Help with background color around the logo - 17 years ago
Quotegetitdone99 I assume when you said "the image code is before the <body> tag" was referring to the banner/advertisement right? Just need to know what page that banner resides on. We don't have any html experts. Thought these forums were designed to help people, even if they had basic html skills? Could it be that your image is too big, having a bunch of white on boby chas_martel - v5/v6 Templates
Re: Oracle controling MySQL: impact on Phorum ? - 17 years ago
QuoteMaurice Makaay You imply that there is an issue with that. Unless I am mistaken there exist huge potential issues given that "ownership" of MySQL has changed hands. Come on, is this point not self evident? QuoteMaurice Makaay Can you start the discussion by elaborating on that instead of only dropping the bomb? I apologize for being so oblique. Perhaps I should have starby chas_martel - Phorum Development
Oracle controling MySQL: impact on Phorum ? - 17 years ago
Hello all, I am wondering what everyone thinks about Oracle's acquisition of Sun in terms of using MySQL? Comments?by chas_martel - Phorum Development
Re: PostgreSQL - 17 years ago
OK, here is a follow up. I have attempted to use Postgresql with Phroum and find that upon trying to create the admin user -right after the tables are made- I get an error that seems to be saying that fields which are defined as int's can't be set because they have paren's around the values. Below is the error displayed in my browser. I am willing to work thru this and/orby chas_martel - Phorum Development

QuoteMythMonk Other than that, so far it's working with Phorum 5.2.8. Can I ask a "hopefully" simple question? Do you just get the postgresql specific files from head and place them into the appropriate directories of a 5.2.8 install?by chas_martel - Phorum Development
Re: One DB, two phorum instances - 18 years ago
Cool, I will check out the link to the mod you posted. I also found this thread, It talks about changing a template early on in a http request, it seems like I could also go this way , making the template decision based upon the type browser hitting my forum. Does that sound reasonable?by chas_martel - Phorum Support
One DB, two phorum instances - 18 years ago
OK, it seems to me that you could have one DB instance and two phorum instances hitting that one DB. Is this OK? Anyone tried this? What I want to do is have a mysite.com and a mobi.mysite.com, where the mobi site shows the same info BUT has radically different templates that cater to mobile devices. Am I going about this the right way or is there a more acceptable way to achieve what Iby chas_martel - Phorum Support
Re: PostgreSQL - 18 years ago
Hello, I have a question about postgresql support. I notice in this thread there is a comment that postgresql works in 5.2.8, there is also a note about a bug fix related to the port that the DB might use. BUT, I look into SVN trunk and see the lastest version is 7 months old. What is up with that? Where is the lates postgresql stuff? Also, will postgresql support ever be official? Re: phpBB -> phorum password issues ?'s - 18 years ago
QuoteThomas Seifert telling which phpbb version would be a good start ;). Sorry, 3.0.1 and I do want to use the latest phorum. :) Actually, I have two php boards to convert, the other is whatever the latest 2.x version is. I plan to port their user bases to one phorum install. I have no problem writing php code to read the DB of each,do any conflict resolution between names and emaby chas_martel - Phorum Support
phpBB -> phorum password issues ?'s - 18 years ago
Hi all, As this is my first post here please forgive me if this is asked in the wrong section. I want to switch from phpBB to phorum. I don't about porting over old post and threads. I merely want to port over my users. I created a user in a phpBB install and one in a phorum install. I set the password to be the same. My understanding is that both use MD5 for passwords, hence Iby chas_martel - Phorum Support
