I am working on making it work with the classic template and I'll be happy to contribute it.

However, I have no clue how to have the recent_messages module select a different template then the emerald one in 'mods/recent_messages/templates/emerald'. The only way I found is to just edit the template files in that emerald directory, but I'd rather put the new classic template in a separate directory in the mods/recent_messages/templates/ directory.

Grepping for emerald in the mods/recent_messages/ doesn't give anything...

You need to create a directory with the same name as the template you want to use. The template system will look for that template name if the forum uses that template. So, basically, make a classic dir in the mod's template dir and it will be used.

Thanks Brian, that did it.

Attached a template for 'classic'. Untar/compress it in the mods/recent_messages/templates directory.

For me it all works, but if you have special options set up it might break but it should give a good starting point.

mmakaay: removed the template zip file.
It is now part of the module package.

I'm getting some strange behavior for one of my users. New messages are sometimes not appearing in recent messages. The strange part is that it seems to be a user-specific problem. I had the user log in on my computer and he gets the same behavior. He can view the messages by going to the forum, but they just don't show up in recent messages. Any ideas?

Sorry, no idea on this one. I never encountered something like this and I can't think of a reason why this would occur. An aggressive caching browser would be my first guess, but that would not appear on your computer and it would only imply a delay in messages showing up. If I understand correctly, the user never sees some messages (so he sees messages that were posted later than the invisible message?). Isn't it some simple thing like having "recent threads" selected instead of "recent messages"? Does the user see this for a specific forum or for various forums? If it's for a specific forum, does the user see it for all messages or only for some?

Eureka!

Yes it was a simple thing - he had changed his setting from "Newest Messages" to "Newest Topics". I hadn't played with those settings at all before, so it didn't occur to me. Thanks!

Now that I look at it, you have:

Newest Messages - individual messages/replies by date
Newest Topics - topics by start date
Updated Topics - topics by last reply date

I must admit this wasn't clear at first, but now that I think about it and play with it, it makes sense.

for reconciling miscellaneous german language files please add the attached files (originally from the German Language Files Package) to the next version of your module. Please remove any german_sie.php or german_du.php from module language folder (if existent). Thanks.
