*.ru email addresses December 20, 2017 08:42AM |

I have a DIY boat building site with roughly 20,000 phorum posts over the years. I have never yet, never once had a Russian user interested in boat building but I get perhaps 20 registrations per week with *.ru email addresses. A few from China too. I delete them manually every few days. I suppose I could make it a cron job. If real new users aren't yet confirmed by 3am my local time they should have acted faster.
I don't have time or patience to examine all not-yet-confirmed registrations. I get an mysql prompt and say:
delete from phorum_users where active != 1; (after deleting any related posts, if they exist).
I have the spam hurdles plugin activated and have fiddled with settings. I'm not complaining. Without spam hurdles I'd get 1000 spammers a week.
Punchline:
I'd like to ban all registrations using any *.ru email address.
In my censor list i have a rule .+\.mail\.ru but it doesn't work. So I must have written the rule incorrectly or there is a hack around.
Suggestions?

Hi,
Did you define your censor rule with "PCRE"?
to block any *.ru email: .*\.ru
Your example should be: .*mail.ru
Regards
Oliver
Using Phorum since 7/2000: forum.langzeittest.de (actual version 5.2.23)
Modules "Made in Germany" for version 5.2: Author_as_Sender, CarCost, Close_Topic, Conceal_Message_Timestamp,
Format_Email, Index_Structure, Mailing_List, Pervasive_Forum, Spritmonitor, Terms_of_Service and German_Language_Files_Package.

Was I using string or prce?
Ouch. I was using string so my regular expression was useless. Thank you. I also took the backslashing out of the rule. We'll see.
Stop forum spam module? I'm using "Spam Hurdles." I'll look into that. Perhaps report results in a week or two.
