Help needed with avatars

Hi All,

I really need some help so any feedback would be very much appreciated...

I have just upgraded to 5.2 from 5.1 and I have implemented the 'Store files on disk' module. However, I cannot get either of the avatar modules to work. Does anyone know whether either of these modules are compatible with the 'Store files on disk' module?

If not, I have a work-around - I have created a custom profile field to input the URL of the image to be used as the avatar. I can get this image to appear in my profile but I cannot get it to work in the 'read' template/ view. Can anyone supply the code I need to get it to display?

the modules need to be for 5.2. 5.1 modules won't work.

There is only one avatar module for 5.2. So, I suspect you are trying the 5.1 modules since you say there are two that you are trying. Check the 5.2 modules forum.

Not completely true. There is one real 5.2 module (User Avatar) that takes full advatage of all new 5.2 features and there is a modified 5.1 module (Avatar) that was only upgraded a bit in the code to make it work under 5.2. The User Avatar module uses the file storage API to store avatars and because of that it should work in conjunction with the file storage module.

Thanks very much for your replies - I have now got it working. I suspect that there was something wrong with my [administrator] settings as all other users' avatars worked but mine simply wouldn't. I had to hack the DB in the end but it's fine now and I'm over the moon. I have posted in another forum - perhaps I shouldn't have so apologies to the moderators if it should have gone here.

What I really want to do is publish the avatars on my homepage [which is just a static HTML page], plus use it in conjunction with the avatars mod. So.. in effect - online users shown not by text but by their avatars...

Does anyone have any ideas or know how this can be done?
