I also did quite a long search for a WordPress/Forum integration, and found nothing ... So I hacked up an integration of Phorum into WordPress.

Thanks for your reply Thomas, i thought that your answer might have been the case.

I will look into phorum styling and see if i can start making phroum look like my site. I hope that the devs here are still keeping this forum software running, as i understand it phorum is more of a hobby that a full-time job for you guys. So far it is the only php forum that has what i want and runs as quickly as I would like!

well, that will need *serious* coding, so not just some handholding.
put your layout to the forum and not the forum into your page.

Firstly, i must apologise i have looked through the forum and found some information regarding embed_phorum, however all information i fear may be out of date and the previously mentioned module isnt available for the latest phorum from what i gather.

I have a website currently under construction, its file tree looks similar to this:

index.php
css/
   >deafult.css
blocks/
   >main.php
   >about.php
   >wiki.php
   >forum.php
img/
forum/
...

index.php uses and array to pull in the requested page from the blocks directory and show the contents in a

(class="content" if it makes any difference.) I have four main divs, header, nav, content and footer. What i would really like to acheive is when the user selects the forum hyperlink on index.php for my entire phorum to be pulled into the

section preserving the rest of my site design.

phorum is currently installed to /forum , forum.php in the blocks directory currently just has a simple html statement saying "This is the forum page" at the moment, but i presume that I will need to use this to pull in some hacked php to enable my entire phorum to pull through as i would like.

The problem is im not a coder by any stretch of the imagination, Im not asking someone to directly solve this issue for me and hand it to me, but if someone could possibly take the time to perhaps hold my hand a little and guide me in the right direction i will gladly do my best to understand what i need to do to incorporate this :)

I am looking for information on pulling recently posted topics on an external php page outside of Phorum.

I wanted to display them on our homepage's sidebar, but can't seem to find the table or file that they're stored in.

One idea, given I doubt there is a hook everywhere you would need, would be to put the following near the top of the files that you don't want your users accessing:

Add it after the phorum stuff is included but before what you don't the user accessing. Then if the user tries to access forbidden stuff, they will just get redirected to the index page.

Hi there,

I'm integrating Phorum with my website. It's very well done, I easily managed to login from my website and create the user on the fly if needed, etc. Then I disabled registration, login and logout from Phorum, the same way it's done in the External Auth. plugin.

But I don't understand how to disable other things that will mess with the integration: "change password" for example, "change email", etc. I don't want the users to change it in Phorum, they should do it in my website.

Can anyone give me a hint on how to achieve that? Thanks a lot!

there is nothing build into phorum which uses the apache ldap external plugin so I guess its a module which you are using. You should contact the module author.

I have integrated Phorum within our site and it authenticates using the apache ldap external plugin. But for some reason, the user has to enter their credentials twice, one for the site and again for Phorum. I assume the site is not passing the user information to Phorum. What step am I missing?

I did a search but could not find a similar problem. If a thread already exists, please forward it.

On the flip side of this issue, another problem with nearly all open source content generators is their pervasive reliance on codes who make use of embedded templating systems. *.tpl templates are easy to manipulate if and only if you merely want to tweak the appearance of that particular template include. But what if you want to move block elements around like musical chairs? And how do you change what a given template include does, when template include statements are peppered throughout external PHP codes like bits of black olives in a spaghetti sauce, from who knows where?

Templating systems are rumored to make modification easy, when in fact they make it more difficult. For instance, if Phorum (which is otherwise the best forum software out there) was easy to manipulate graphically, there would now be a host of contemporary-looking skins to make use of. But instead the template library consists of a long list of derivative tables-based looks that change largely by color and border style only. Trying to modify skins is trickier than writing new plugin codes. I have my ideas about big-picture directions to go in. But even without specific alternative suggestions I am firmly convinced templating systems are holding the whole web development picture back. To a look-and-feel snail's pace.

Ok. I'm ready to receive all incoming arrows. But I do predict in a decade's time all content production systems will be able to embed all others, and versa visa. And new look-and-feel skins will be a lot easier to modify than they are today.

Users (including me) have, in the past, wondered why it is so difficult to integrate blogs forums and shopping carts that normally want to be autonomous pages. In other words, why can't Phorum appear as the contents of a DIV inside some other layout context? Why can't I put phorum inside my header-navigation-and-main-display pages, without using an IFRAME?

The answer is complex, but it seems to have a lot to do with conditional if($x<$y) header("location: xxx") else .... switching. Answers to that question (from Phorum developers) often complain that although that goal is entirely doable, it is far too much work to accomplish, perhaps involving huge amounts of Javascript.

In a slightly related context someone here did publish the guts of a way to place a Phorum discussion at the foot of every page, on an arbitrary website. I remember the example given, and it worked nicely. But it was painfully difficult to pull off.

So why don't software systems like Phorum adhere to an integration API of some kind? If ALL get and post parameters specific to Phorum where named with a unique three character prefix followed by and underscore, it would be a fairly simple problem to write a plugin manager for any enclosing Content Management system. ?cms_page=whatever&phm_readphp=1234

Perhaps I'm missing something. Perhaps I'm missing a lot. But I don't see why an enclosing content management system couldn't parse a URL like that. Recognize phm_ refers to a well-known "plugin" named phorum who wants to make use of a routine named read.php with parameter 1234. Produce the phm_ output before pushing anything down the internet pipe. Save it as a string and then push it into a block element inside the CMS page and then write to port 80. If all important content producers followed an established plugin API, then any system could make use of any other.

Phorum could have a blog attached. Open Cart could have product category forums. Etc.

If the WebAssist expert just gave you a module which doesn't work now he's in charge to give you something working.

Hi, I am attempting to use the inherit authentication from session module with a member website. As I have no php knowledge I enlisted the help of the developer of the authentication/cms system I am using (WebAssist/SecurityAssist), who inserted the code he thought should work (see below). In the cookie/session Settings I have:

Hi guys, i've had a search but can't find anything related to this specifically, only about logging in/registering...

If I have a wordpress website and phorum, is it possible to feed the latest posts in wordpress to the Phorum page, and then link to them in the forum, without going through and manually linking to them?

So for example:

News Headline!

News Story

Click here to discuss this on the forum...

The story is automatically posted to the forum in a different colour font etc to show it's a news item, and you can then discuss it in the forum?
