RSS feed creation for whole Phorum

I have taken my old RSS script including the changes that Dagon had made and improved upon it. For starters, it now includes the posts body in the feed. It also will create an RSS feed for the whole Phorum or just a single forum. It will even create an RSS feed for a single thread.

I have included the graphic in the package that we use here on our site for the RSS feed. There is also a readme and an example of how to put it in your Phorum.

New Version

Fixed an issue with invalid entities. Added author and category to the feed. Added forum name to subject when pulling rss for whole phorum.

How does Phorum 5.2 not provide an RSS feed for the whole forum? It can do a full forum feed or it can do a feed for a specific forum. Either with or without replies included in the feed. "RSS feed creation for whole Phorum" describes what we already have, so either your description of what Phorum does not support is bad (and you wanted some other feature that is not supported) or you overlooked the feature.

Example: full feed, with replies for phorum.org

What the ...??? Are you responding to posts from 2005 now? That sad, especially with your reference "don't expect too much help from the development team". Please man, stop being such a troll. You want to be a forum administrator; you really should know better than this...

And once again: is there a question in your message? Or are you "just thinking out loud" once more? Are we supposed to respond to your white screen issue?

White screens normally mean that something is wrong and the PHP crashes at an early stage in the code. The most common reason for this is that there is a syntax error in the code. Check your error logs and enable error reporting in the php.ini so you can see errors in the browser when they occur.

The rss needs a bit more cleaning to get rid of garbage.

I haven't quite worked out how yet, but I'll get there. Consider this feed which is ok in firefox but falls over in IE due to the apostrophes

[www.sh20extension.com]

Currently I've added in the code at the bottom of [forums.digitalpoint.com] but it doesn't seem to help with this specific problem.

I'm surprised this isn't standard with the forum, but I'm sure it will be eventually.

The rss.php feeds are kind of hard to read, since they have no linebreaks. The fix is to change line 118 of rss.php from:

        $data.="
".htmlspecialchars($item['description'])."
\n";

to:

       $data.="
".nl2br(htmlspecialchars($item['description']))."
\n";

This makes the feeds nicer to read. Cheers!

I have the rss feed runnin for the whole board, but I'd like to have 2 rss feeds runnin and relayin the info to an ircd [which i have working fine] the thing is, the rss I have now is replayin all posts made global (all activity) on my phorum, and I'd like that to remain but to miss out 1 forum which I'd like as a second feed that will only grab the new posts in this particular forum, is this possible?

So, 2 rss feeds with 2 urls

example: www.domain.com/rss.php (gloabal - 1 forum)
www.domain.com/rss1.php (forum specific)

RSS Feed error occurs with character & in forum heading.

Also, encoding doesn't know how to treat the ' character.

What's the fix for these?
---------------------------------------------
Ok, got those fixed... Now the new thing...
bbcodes and &nbsp showing in rss feed(s)...
Anyone have a simple solution my current problem?

Hi - wanted to let you know that the code worked perfectly here - just dropped right in. The only thing I noticed, an admittedly obscure case, was that I get an error "Notice: Undefined variable: items in c:\apache\htdocs\asite\phorum\rss.php on line 89" if I try to pull the RSS feed for a completely empty forum. Thanks for sharing the nice work!
