There once was a blog template, but we dropped it, since it turned out that a blog and a forum are not the same kind of beast.

A forum is not a blog. Feature sets are different, use cases are different.
If you use the search function on these forums, you can find a thread like this one.

I used the search button, you had the better search term! Thanks. - I think it'be fun if a user could set up a blog by her/himself (At least it was mentioned in my conversations with people.) Which typical "Blog" features did you have in mind which would be difficult to implement in a simple Phorum Blog application?

I did not have blog features in mind, since I did not create that template, nor felt the use for it.
Brian Moon created Wordcraft when he needed a useful, light weight Blogging application. He did not go for pushing Phorum until the level where is acted as this kind of basic blog.
Surely it would be possible to use Phorum's structure and module / template support to create a blog application. Have fun playing with that idea.

I too wanted something like blogs. I was thinking that the blog would be just a private forum. The blogger has the right to say who views it (everybody, buddies, registered users, etc) and who if anybody gets to post.
I presume I could set up forums like this, but it would be so time consuming to set up so many forums.

Some time ago, I created a news/blog-forum combination with phorum 5.1.25
I can choose between a blog look and a forum look. It's not template based but I did modify some pages that display topic lists or articles.
If someone is interested how it looks go to [demokratie.mine.nu]
Don't mind the German language.
