Can you "customize" templates

I'm not looking for anything fancy I just want to change the base colors of the template to match a website. Also can you edit the background of the phorum? I've looked around but I can't find any basic getting started tutorials for stuff like this.

and settings.tpl in a template folder has the most simple settings for a template ;).

You can further try my Easy Color Scheme Manager module which will allow you to change the colors without editing any files.

If you do decide to go with editing the template, you should first copy the template folder to a custom folder (eg. copy emerald to emerald_custom), edit the info.php file within that new folder to reflect that it is your custom template, then make your changes to the other files. Otherwise, your template changes could be overwritten in a future upgrade.
