I just wanted to note that even if cookies have been activated (Require cookies), every time when going with the mouse over a message, the cookie-message appears but after accepting the cooking the preview doesn't appear. I use Firefox browser.

Does this still happen? Or is everything ok with the new file?

Ok, I have patched the header.js file. Please upload this new version to the mods/post_previews folder and you should be set.

Is this something we all should update?

Once I confirm that it is fully working, I will release a new version of the module. If you wouldn't mind testing it, you could also upload the file. I did my own testing and it should be stable, but I haven't had a completely clear answer yet. Eventually, everyone will want this patch as Phorum defaults to the url session key if you do not set "Require Cookies" and a visitor does not accept cookies.

Ok, I've installed it in both of the 5.2 forums I run. I'll let you know if there are problems.

After installing the new file post preview works if cookies are disabled.
If cookies are "allowed" or "required" i have with Firefox the problem that when I move the mouse over a topic, the preview doesn't appear but instead the cookie-message from Firefox appears and even if I accept the cookie the preview doesn't appear.

I have set the preference to "use no cookies", so it works on my pages.
Module: Post Previews v5.2.1.02 - Bugfix for non-cookie users
April 28, 2009 10:15PM
I'm guessing this was some sort of caching/refresh issue with Firefox while switching between cookie modes. I have tested Firefox, IE, and Opera with cookies allowed, required, or disabled and the patch is working fine. Thus I am releasing v5.2.1.02 of this module with the following changes:

- Enhancement: Support added for the French language by Phorum user manuvb.

- Bugfix: Post previews would not show for threads on the list page if cookies were disabled, requiring session ids to be added to the urls. Thanks go to Phorum user higphorum for reporting this bug.

Module: Post Previews v5.2.1.03 - Ability to mark previewed messages/threads read
April 30, 2009 12:22PM
The recent debugging reminded me of a feature I wanted to add to this module ever since it was enabled for this site and I started using Maurice's Recent Messages module more. So, I have released v5.2.1.03 of this module with the following changes:

- Enhancement: Added the ability for a logged-in user to mark the previewed message read with a CTRL+Right-click or the previewed message's entire thread with a CTRL+Shift+Right-click. A help message can be enabled to appear above the preview area and explain this feature.

- Enhancement: Add the option to show an alert pop-up if an AJAX error occurs. This should only be used for debugging.

- Enhancement: Message_id gathering now centralized in one function to avoid repeated code.

- Bugfix: All Javascript functions are now properly named to avoid possible, if unlikely, collisions.

Great module!!!

Is it possible to have post previews disabled by default (never for unregistered users, off by default for registered)?

Unfortunately not at this time. This would require some rewriting of the code for the module. I will add it to the todo list, but I don't anticipate incorporating it anytime soon.

I've a problem with embedded videos: if a video is embedded in a message, it is overlapping the post preview box. (like it doesn't care if there was a box or not).
I already tried a lot of css settings (positioning, z-index, and so on...), but I was not able to fix that yet.

Can you reproduce that?
