Sorry, it's very unclear to me what the actual feature is that you are after. Especially the link with a registration is unclear to me. But whatever, the jumpmenu will not help you with selecting a forum in some interface, so that concludes the question in this thread.
If you want to explain your goals and ideas some more, then try the mod request forum. If there are developers out there that get inspired by your idea, an implementation might be done.

I want to provide public users with forum access. Unfortunately, your current jumpmenu allows public users to only choose folders from the root folder. As soon as I add a sub-folder with according forums the jumpmenu will only be populated when the user is registered and logged in. Are you aware of any remedy? Thank you!

Logout on this forum and hover over "COMMUNITY" in the main menu. You will see that here the deeper folders and forums are visible. The only reason that I know of for not showing deeper forums, would be if anonymous users would not be allowed to enter these. The jumpmenu only shows the readable forums. My first suggestion therefore would be that you check your forum permissions.

Thank you. Good point and you are right with regards to this forum.
When I delete the sub-folder subsequently the according forums are being moved to the root folder. Only then they will be displayed while the user is not logged in.
Do I make a mistake creating a folder?
Btw, I don't direct people to a forum but to its posting form (permissions are all set to "Create new topic" only.)

If you only have "create new topic" and no other permissions, then the users do no have read permission and the forum would not show up. That would be expected behavior. I don't know why they would show up when put in the root folder in that case though.
Can you create an account for us and can you tell us the site URL, so we can check out the forum ourselves? Creating a folder and putting forums in them should not be a big issue.
Unless.... did you make sure that "Visible" was set to "yes" for the folders that you created?

Hi Maurice, Thanks for being so quick! You easily can replicate the behavior I have noticed. Although it is sufficient to solely set a forum permission to "Create new topic" within the root folder it appears not to be sufficient if you create a folder and place a forum into it. The remedy is to add i.e. a "Read" permission to this particular forum.
So, in short: If you want to provide "Jumpmenu" forum access to public users the forums with the permission "Create new topic" alone won't populate your menu, unless you place all forums into the root folder which doesn't contain any sub-folders.

That is a very complicated way of saying:
"There is a bug in the jumpmenu. It shows forums in the root folder, even if read permission is not set for them."
Your description is a big walk around this issue.
I never test with posting-only permission, but I might to, to fix this bug.

I just didn't want to spoil it with you ;~} My description was more complicated since the application in question requires it. But since you are also looking into your script, I would appreciate a change that would allow users to post to a forum without "Read" permission. Otherwise, the "Create new topic" permission wouldn't make sense. Thank you!

I'm not sure how easy it would be to fully implement that permission and frankly speaking, it it not a permission set that makes sense for a forum. You might be abusing a forum application for a different task here.
When the change would have minimal impact for a full implementation, we might do that in a future release. However, when it is adding a complication level to the code, the solution might be that we change the permission settings form. It could uncheck and disable the "Create new topic" permission checkbox in case the read permission is removed. That way, you wouldn't be able to have topic creation enabled without allowing to read the forum. Probably not your preferred solution, but it would at least prevent a configuration of non-implemented permission combinations.

Social responsibility, fairness, and trust are very high on my list while abuse can be found at the bottom.
Thanks for your time and your attempt to solve this issue. No need to change anything since I can comfortably work around it. I just want to let you know that I have "non-abusive" applications in mind for which the permission setting in question is helpful and necessary.
