Not picking up template variables

I copied one of the tempates into a new directory and renamed it, and I've replaced some of the images in the image directory. When I specify the new template in the admin settings, the correct images are used, but the software is still referring to the Emerald template for everything else. Before I dig through all the template files, does anyone know why this might be happening?

ETA--just found the doc files on the templates, which may answer my question. Will repost if I still need to know.

did you check settings.tpl in the template folder?

Yep. I had already changed the info.php. Found that one by myself, but after I read the docs I went back to settings.tpl and changed a whole bunch of things :) Thanks!
