Phorummail for Phorum 5
February 15, 2005 03:51PM
File: phorummail.zip

Ok, after a long wait it is ready. This add on only takes incoming emails and puts them in Phorum. To email posts out, you will need to use my version of the emailallposts module.

What it does do
----------------

Inserts emails into forums. It can optionally identify a user based on email.
It uses in-reply-to and references headers to match replies. It will also
try a subject match to match replies. It does respect moderation settings.

What it does not do
--------------------

It does not check permissions on a forum before inserting messages.
It does not pull in attachments from email messages.

Known Issues
-------------

Bodies from emails where there is a nesting of mime encoding are lost. (rare)

Brilliant. But I don't understand this bit:

3. Edit the #! line at the top to point at your local php binary.

What is the local PHP binary? How can I find it out?

go to a shell prompt on your server and type:

which php

That will give you a path to the php binary.

Well, o.k. I have no idea how to get a shell prompt. Do I have to go through telnet?

i.e type

telnet://"site.i.p.":"port number"

in my browser and then..?

Type your password, hit enter :)

After that you should propably start using ssh...

if you don't know how to get a shell-prompt you probably don't have ssh-access to your server.
most probably you need root-access to configure your mailsystem correctly too (might work with qmail without root-access if I got it correctly).

I can get to the server using Telnet, but it doesn't ask for a password or login, and when I type 'which php' it says '500 WHICH not understood'.

I do have root access, and we have neomail running on the system.

that sounds like you are using ftp, not telnet.

Yeah, that is an FTP error.

OK, I'm confused again. I have seen several postings
[phorum.org]
indicating that this has a mailing list feature also. Your description doesn't indicate one though.

No I haven't installed it, based on the description I don't want it. I do want a mailing list feature though. Is this it or is it still in the works??
