The new front page has a section called "Featured Phorum". If you want to be in there, just post a short testimonial here. Sites we want to feature are ones that have done a lot of customization, have huge readership, and/or have lots of traffic.

Well if everyone else is too shy, I'll have a go!

www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/phorum/ is the busiest Cantonese educational forum in the world. The page encoding is in Unicode to allow visitors to post in a variety of Asian and Western scripts. Custom tags allow Chinese to be enlarged or shown in a traditional script font (to aid people posting tattoo requests!).
Membership to the site is managed exclusively via Phorum's "Control Center", which was easy to alter via plugin modules, template changes and the built-in "custom profile fields". All registered users can now customise the site's Chinese dictionary according to their needs, and paid members can hide advertising across the site. The core Phorum code wasn't altered in any way in order to implement these changes.

Hey I will give a try:

www.clansunited.net is one of the bussiest forums for Starsiege & Tribes. Phorum enables us to make a site design that fits with our needs. The speed of the forum is also very important since a lot of gamers still use dialup. Besides that we are glad that we can offer our users something that is different from other boards out there.

www.rodoslovlje.com has been using Phorum ever since we started as a society in 2000. Our site is the biggest genealogical portal for the region and Phorum enables us to use different languages and designs all at the same time. On that way we can reach a bigger audience and Phorum helps us helping people finding their roots.

Find's Treasure Forums is our site...
January 10, 2006 09:42AM
Find's Treasure Forums, [www.findmall.com] is one of the most popular metal detecting/treasure hunting forum sites in the world. We were pretty devastated that the end users were all used to the old cgi script forums that were threaded with almost nothing to look forward to in the way of a modern update.

Phorum’s developers worked with us to allow us to develop a look and feel that imitated the look and vastly improved what the old scripts were able to to do. It became so flexible that the majority who wanted to preserve their threaded view had no idea other then they see the ability to look at the forums in flat mode if they choose to.

We have just started another site, [www.lakestockton.com] where all the members that have flocked to it insist on a flat view which meant we had nothing to do but change the defaults in the administration. Already many professional walleye fishermen have started posting. I have to think it’s the Phorum software.

It’s easily the best forum software out there at this point in time. I cannot begin to tell you how much easier to manage this is then then WEBBBS which is what we had. No one out there comes even slightly close to the abilities of this package to get done whatever it is you’re after.

A big thanks while I have the opportunity to Brian Moon, Thomas Seifert and Maurice Makaay. That is one heck of a Phorum Development Team.

I'm new to the hosting team (not webhost, but meeting host).

[ur=http://www.mgla.org]MGLA:Motion Graphics Los Angeles has been using different versions of the Phorum for a while. Our forum is MGLA CAFE.

MGLA is the premiere user group in Southern California, but forum traffic hasn't been very high. I am looking to see how to change that, and have just become active in this forum.

We are a group of motion graphics designers - I hope I can integrate more .gif, .swf, .mov or jpg images soon.

I'm just learning.... right now! Thanks for all the help!

After the database upgrade goes well, I'll feature ours, which has both very high traffic AND lots of customization.

Chanh, how about a blurb about why you chose Phorum for the front page?

I use Mambo and Simpleboard for many of my sites but for the reasons that I will not go into here but I need to migrate away from Simpleboard. I have been looking and searching for various solution including phpBB, SMF, UNB, MiniBB, Mercury board, FUDForum, PunBB, UseBB, and more.

I was frustrated to say the least because I was not able to find a workable solution or work to a point that it is seamless for my users.

My critiria are very simple:
. Seamless user login between Mambo and forum
. Powerful, fast, extensible, etc

The big turning point for me is when I come across Maurice Maakay Embed project so I start discussing my need with him and it is so happen that it is in line with his project so I help Maurice to get up to speed on how to write a little component as a connector in his Embed project. We worked through bugs and eventually it is very seamless.

I have more testng and decided this is the solution for me so I want to have a way to migrate all posts from Simpleboard to Phorum. The devs here suggested to take a look at the phorum3 to phorum5 conversion script so I did and I use it as a base to create my own conversion script. I worked on it for a few weeks get something going but having some problem so I posted some questions here and got very good respond and pointer from Maurice and Thomas and able to resolve my problem.

So last Friday night 4/28/06 I decide to do the actual migration and cut over. There were a couple little issue but for the most part it works!

I tweaked the embed template to match our site theme and it turns out very nice.

Phorum is a good forum for the purpose of embed into other CMS and it has very powerful features and extensible via modules.

Thank you,
Chanh Ong

After convert opensourceCMS.com to Phorum I also convert my own site using Phorum with Maurice's embed template.

I also figure out a way to show Phorum as my frontpage even though it is embed inside Mambo.

Very slick!

Here is the link: [ongetc.com]

PS: Please add [opensourceCMS.com] and [ongetc.com] to the "Links to Phorum sites" list.

Thanks

To be added to the links page, you can submit the link from that page.

I tried to submit a link on that page and got this message:

What is that mean?

Sounds like you have cookies turned off. I had to put a cookie on that page to keep bots from submitting links.

No, I don't turn off cookie. I tired on FF and IE and they both get the same problem.

I even tried on a different computer and have the same problem.

Hardly any customization, but a great clean install with Phorum in the primary focus.

Medium amount of traffic condsidering how specific the subject matter is.

Hi,

I can propose my China Club / Chinese forum.
I've turned the phorum into a multilingual language exchange community added on my 8-websites network (list here)

Custom addition
A searchable member database (to search member according to their origin, native language, studied languages, actual living place), with statistics (language, country, city).

Multilingual, cross-website
Thanks to phorum, the Club / Forum is available on different language website, with a unique database, allowing member who registered on different website to get in touch.
Actually 5 languages:
- English: Club / Forum
- French: Club / Forum
- Spanish: Club / Foro
- German: Club / Forum
- Portuguese: Clube / Forum
And soon Polish, Italian and Chinese.

Traffic
The 8-websites network has an average 35 000 visitors a day (don't know exactly on the different forums), 30 registrations a day.

Good points
- I've also made the highest donation to the phorum team in April or May...
- A link to "phorum.org" on every phorum page.

Phorum was a perfect choice of forum for me considering a large reader base of mine would be people using the iPhone. Phorums lightweight pages and quick loading times cut down loading times when users are using the 3G or EDGE network.

The template system was also extremely easy to modify to fit the considerably smaller screen of the iPhone.

Custom modifications i've mde is the use of icons and colours to represent specific users in the topics and replies
For example admins have a gold star next to there bold red name
Moderators have silver stars next to their bold green name and so on.

I've also re-wrote a lot of the User CP so that there is no longer 2 columns so it can fit onto the iPhone screen
Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
