i got this when i tried to install the latest stable release .
i've created tge folder /forums/tmp and set it to 777
and it still gives me that warning !!?
what should i do ?

Did you change the cache directory in Phorurm's settings? If you installed Phorum in the "forums" folder, then change the cache directory to "./tmp" (so with a dot in front of it, to let it point to the Phorum directory's tmp dir.)

1. as you are posting in the 5.1 forums - are you really installing 5.1.x instead of the current stable 5.2.x? Why?
2. /forums/tmp is not the system tmp folder which you seem to have no access to. Just make the ./cache folder in the forums directory writable (e.g. with chmod 777) and change the cache directory in the admin to
