I have done quite a bit of work on this module and its friend the "external phorummail" module (technically most of the work was done by an upwork contractor), and I have a version that's ready for testing. It's working for me, but you know how that goes. I've attached the new version to this post.

Basically I added much of the functionality that was in the Mail2forum module that I used to use in conjunction with PHPBB. I needed this functionality to be able to use it in production on my new Phorum site. Here's what I put in the Changelog

- Major new version with a lot of added functionality
- Added ability to add subject prefix before sending to a mailing list - used to add same subject back to the outgoing email that would be on an incoming email from the list. This helps messages thread correctly.
- Made the following two (formerly default) actions now optional
-- Prepend Phorum name to outgoing email subject (now optional)
-- Prepend Post details to outgoing email body (now optional)
- Added ability to add signature to end of email
- Added ability to resend email if a post is edited
- Added ability to add a subject tag if resending edited post
- Added ability to add a line to end of edited posts
- Added ability to send email as OP's name, but with usual email address (e.g. Posters Name ) Can also send as just an email address, the system name, or a custom name.

Does anyone out there have the code necessary to allow the Mailing List module to include the user's signature when sending out messages? I know this is possible in the Group Auto Email module, but I'm not brave enough to try to work out how to transfer the code from one module to the other.

Minimum required Phorum version is 5.2.11. My module doesn't change any encoding or character set when sending mails to the mailing list. So I couldn't see any error. What's about other mails from your forum (for example moderation mails)? They are okay?

In my phorum/include/lang/spanish.php file I have only 1 line regarding to charset:
$PHORUM['DATA']['CHARSET'] = "UTF-8";

I don't have phorum at last version. Could be this the problem?

Which language file do you use? The original english file from the Phorum installation? Or did you get some additional language files from this forum? Inside each language file (see folder /include/lang/) you can find one line defining the character set (CHARSET). For a new installation you should use utf8 for all components (database, encoding and character set).

Claro que sí.

I'm using my Mailing List Module with a german forum, so we have a lot of german Umlauts. No problem.

Perhaps it's a problem with your character set in your language file. I think you have to use utf-8.

I guess you posted in the wrong thread and were talking about the external phorummail module. The external phorummail can only import from imap or pop. If you can hook up your mbox to some imap server you can import it too.

thanks for this awesome looking module. It looks very promising, but I look for a specific functionality:
I have an mbox from mailman and want to import it, I saw only pop functionality, is there a way to feed an mbox file to your module? Or mail by mail manually, but not through pop?

The Embed Attachments Module (version 1.0.1) is also enabled in my test environment.

Please enable the Event Logging Module too, my beta version writes some debugging information about attachments to the log. And have a look to Sanity Checks.

Since it needs a lot of sensitiveness to know how your Phorum developers like to solve things (so my experience) I prefer to ask you first. My "patch" was just for Robert to give him the opportunity to test my besta version of the Mailing List Module.

Patching Core Function:

The core mail function doesn't support attachments. If you want to send attachments you have to patch

Open the file and search for (starting line 241):

I found the problem: my Mailing List Module uses phorum_email_user to send mails (because I like to use existing core functions instead of programming the wheel a second time...).

But phorum_email_user calls the send_mail hook without passing attachments. So the smtp_mail module doesn't receive any attachment...

So, what to do? I see various solutions:

1. Phorum developers add attachment support to the send_mail hook (my preferred solution).

2. The Mailing List Module catches attachments with the email_user_start hook and uses the send_mail hook to add them to the message array (running with priority before the smpt_mail module).

3. Duplicating main part of phorum_email_user to my Mailing List Module (which causes an obligation to keep this part synchronous to the core function in future releases).

@Thomas: What about solution 1?

Send Mail Through SMTP Module installed, configured and tested in my development environment; Mailing List Module extended but no attachments in incoming mails... Suspending for today. Debugging tomorrow...

Hello, all. Thanks for the hard work you all put in. I've run through all the forums, and the code itself, and I'm still having trouble figuring out one minor issue. I would like outgoing emails from phorum, which go to a Mailman list, to appear to be sent from the posting party, not from the system email default. I have tried "Author as Sender", and it doesn't appear to substitute the author of the post for the system email default when it sends to the Mailman list. I suspect I'm not setting up something right, but this is the last piece of the puzzle for me to move over to Phorum, other than trying to figure out how to import a phpBB2 board. That's another day. Thanks for any help.

There is also a module in here called "Forum Subscriptions" that will email new topics, but not replies.

There is also another one called "Group Auto Email" that does the same thing, which is really an older version of Forum Subscriptions.

If you don't want to send so many outgoing emails look if your mailing list software offers "digests". I think this would be the better solution for your visitors.

Just a bug fix because former versions of Mailinglist Module and Author as Sender Module didn't work for me (because I don't use the FROM address option). Now I have both modules also correctly working in my production system.

Next step will be attachment capabilities.
