I had already looked on that page and didn't find anything meeting my needs. That's why I came here to initiate a request to see if we can do anything to make this happen.

The ignore user module is the closest thing I could find, but it doesn't apply to PMs.

https://www.phorum.org/phorum5/read.php?62,128240,128240#msg-128240

I'm not sure how the buddies or friends systems work. I've never used those. Is there a way to accomplish blocking PM's from specific individuals using those? If so, can you give me a brief explanation as to how it works to do this? I've read the descriptions of those modules and it doesn't sound like they would accomplish what we're looking for. But it could be that I'm missing functionality that is present that would do this.

What we'd want is for the default to be to allow all PM's through as usual, but to give users the option to "block this sender" from within a PM as they read it, which will then apply this block permanently to all future PM's sent by that sender. There would need to be a setting somewhere to allow for users to see a list of senders they have blocked that allows them to unblock people they previously blocked too to allow for cases where heated situations get resolved later.

And then to put a cherry on top, additional functionality that would not be necessary, but would be sweet is to allow users to craft individual block messages that get sent back to each user that tries to send PM's to them after being blocked. Blocked user #1 sends a PM, gets blocked and gets the auto-response individually written by the user to target that specific blocked user - for example "Your message to User has been blocked. User has designated you as a doody-head, so nyah!". But then another auto-response message for another blocked user could read "Your message to User has been blocked. User will unblock you if you apologize on the board for _____" Again, only the blocking itself with a simple auto-response would be necessary. I'm just giving an idea for a cool more advanced feature that could be added if anyone is inclined to code a module to accomplish this.

We're seeing a situation where users are taking heated discussions to PM's and harassing others. We don't want to have to ban users over this. It would be better to have a feature where individual users can block incoming PM's from other specific individual users.

I'd be willing to assist in the development of this with testing and functionality suggestions, but I wouldn't be able to fully code this as I don't have that level of coding skills. I can often tweak existing code, but I wouldn't be able to develop this from scratch.

Phorum logs the IP that comes in with the post in the database. In most cases this is the assigned IP from the internet provider. If they go through an anonymizer, the logged IP is that of the anonymizing company.
In the admin, you can change whether the IP is shown to regular users, admins always see it.
Event logging captures the IP address and logs it if enabled.

if you use the emerald template you can make your changes in \templates\emerald\css.tpl and define the background effects for your desired elements. It's just CSS, nothing special to Phorum.

Take care to "purge cache" in the admin panel after changes to the template.

Take care to clear also your browser cache when your browser doesn't show your changes.

I've tried that module first, it's not working. In my setup, the user@browser kann choose if he wants to use HTTPS or HTTP, but the LB forwards all incoming requests, even HTTPS, as HTTP to the web servers. Additionally, Phorum ist accessed through 2 different domains, one accessible only internally for admin tasks, and one external, where admin stuff is blocked by server config. The configured http_path points to the external domain.

I am not sure exactly what you want between LB and Phorum, but this works for most who want https between the browser and Phorum, or http between the browser and Phorum. It should work with any passed URL regardless of source.

We're terminating SSL encryption on the load balancer, communication between the LB and the web servers is unencrypted. The LB adds a HTTP header "isSSL: true" on imcoming HTTPS requests. To make Phorum work in this setup, I added a file include/phorum_get_protocol.php and made a few changes to common.php and include/phorum_get_url.php.

I'ld like to append the files here, but this doesn't seem to be possible, so I put it this way:

get_protocol. php:

Language: PHP
<?php

}

In common.php, I added

Language: PHP
require_once("include/phorum_get_protocol.php");

just before

Language: PHP
return $url;

in each of the functions phorum_get_url, phorum_get_url_no_uri_auth and phorum_get_current_url.

This refers to version 5.2.20.

Would somebody integrate that in proper form in Phorum, perhaps as a module? The name and value of the header sent by the LB should probably be configurable.

It is installed but as far as customization, I'm wondering if there is any fee-based support for English-language customization of the site.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Resizing of attachments

This would be a mod I'd love to have as well.

While resizing photos may only take me a few seconds, it's a huge stumbling block for the average internet user. Most users want to take photos directly from their phones or camera and simply attach them directly to a post. It's probably one of the most common complaints from users on my site. I get multiple emails every week from users asking me why their photos won't attach to their messages. I cut and paste the same response from my FAQ page with simple direction on resizing their photos but plenty of users just can't figure it out.

I found this old link but I'm no programmer (I'm just a hack who can butcher code enough to occasionally make it work):
[www.codeforest.net]

It seems like a mod could be written to check files types on upload/attachment and if they are '.jpg', '.jpeg', '.gif', '.png' etc… then resize them to a specific height or width. In the second tutorial it even has instructions on resizing photo on the client side to speed upload time:
[www.codeforest.net]

Honestly it seems like it's a pretty do-able Phorum mod in principle for someone with coding knowledge. I'd love to tackle it but I don't have the first idea where to start when it comes to writing a mod. I'm just dangerous enough to make small modification to some of the great mods already written (and I hardly ever know why my hack worked or didn't). I don't know how many active Phorum coders/users there are, but I think this could be an extremely useful mod in today's cell phone camera crazy society.
