Upgrading from 3.4.8a (Postgres) (no replies)

I have a simple Phorum 3.4.8a installation that uses Postgresql 7.2 as the
database. Now I'd like to upgrade the forum to version 5 (I have MySQL too on the
server). Any ideas how to achieve this? Maybe there is some way to convert the
3.4.8a forum to MySQL and then use the upgrade script?

Hiya, I've been using Phorum for about 3 years, and I love it.

Recently, I migrated my content to another server, and I now get the following message if I try to view a page whilst not logged in:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare addgetpostvars() in /var/www/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/devega/htdocs/board/common.php on line 7

all files have 777 chmod - what are security risky (1 reply)

I am novice so that before installation I changed attributes of all files to 777 (I did not want problems in install process). But now after installation I dont know if some files with 777 atribute are (or not) security risky for my phorum. Please tell me to what files (*.php) I must change attribute (and what chmod must be) so that my installaed phorum be secure and functioned. Thank you.

I recently downloaded and installed a different forum package, completely set it up for the website I have created, then realised that there was no feature for 'authorisation required posting'.

To clarify, I am looking for forum software that will enable registered users to create new threads and posts, however these threads/posts will need to be approved by site admin before being viewed.
Does this package meet this requirement.

I can login, but the login screen only refreshes and stays on the login screen. It does not go to the thread list as it should. How can I fix this?

I have properly changed the settings for attachements in the admin, but there is nothing in the treads interface which allows me to attach files. I am using 3.4.8a. What am I missing?

Hi - I am using Phorum 3.3.2a on my site. Recently I have started having problems with tables in my database becoming corrupted. When this happens the threads in the forum are not visible and I can not access the information in the tables with PHPMyadmin. The table must be restored to fix. Any suggestions on how to stop this problem. I have been using Phorum for several years and have never had problems before. Would an upgrade to the current version help?

Needing to upgrade from 3.2.11 to 5.0.21.

Is this upgrade possible as far as jumping from one version to another? Any advice? I'm willing to pay $$$ for assistance. These forums are years old and losing the data isn't an option.

I need to do something quickly, getting slammed by automated scripts posting gambling and pharmaceutical messages.

I ran into a problem with 3.4.8a with Preview and attachments.
What I discovered is that people would write a message and include
an attached file and then hit preview.

In the preview view we see at the top what the message will look
like and below that the post form is displayed again. But the
attachment input fields are now blank. So many users would try
to use those fields again and then post. The result is that
the file would be uploaded but it wouldn't have message id in
the database.

So to fix this problem I simply don't display the file input
boxes in preview mode.

At line 158 in $phorum/include/form.php:

I have a problem to mark readed messages.

And it's hapenned because my phorum is hosted on a location different from the site to which it refers.

For exemple, my site is at www.test.org and my forum at www.kerlan.com/phorum/ (not true URL, juste exemples)

I want to open my forum in a frame of a many-frame window on the main site www.test.org. I have allowed Cookies, but if I want to Mark All Read, it doesn't work, it doesn't created a cookies.

If I open my forum directly in www.kerlan.com/phorum/ now, it manages the cookies and It can mark "All Read".

I suppose, the problem is du to the different location, is there a solution to this configuration

Problem during Installation (11 replies)

At the Step 3 I face some strange problem.

I do fill every input, except upgrade, but I see error message:
"Error: The database-server couldn't create the tables. It's an upgrade, perhaps?"

For sure, it`s not upgrade - database is empty. CHMOD for settings/ folder and forum.php is right also.

But if I check "Check here if this is an upgrade." then installation continue and succesful... Then, when I trying to create a new Forum or Folder I see this error message:

"Could not add forum to the main table (forums). Database error: Table '*****_forum.forums' doesn't exist."

I think it happen cause I choose upgrade option...

Please help, do not know how to install correct.

I up loaded the forum folder to our new host and when I try to open the forum i get an error message; Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pg_connect() in /usr/home/dnolan/public_html/forum/db/postgresql.php on line 30

All of a sudden there is no IP address next to the posters name as before. All there is is (). Nothing has changed "Show IP/Host" is set to ALWAYS in admin so what is the problem?

In order to compare my work with previous work done by others, I need to acquire some old and insecure versions of phourm, specifically 3.0.7, 3.2.6, and 3.3.2a.

Do these versions still exist somewhere?

Hello,

I would like to make a big textfile from all the posting on a phorum3 site which I still run. In this way I can shutdown the phorum, but still give my visitors the opportunity to search threw the old postings.

I tried to mysqldump the complete database, but that's not what I am looking for.

I think I only need certain tables from the database?

Does anybody know howto get the job done?

Hi,

When a user forgot a password, and like to generate a new one, the phorum generate new password but do not send e-mail with it to user. Server OS is Linux with working sendmail installed.

Hi, I have just installed phorum v3 for a client (had to use this v3 as his hosting company are still on old versions of PHP etc.). All went well for me and all is working ok.

The client, who is not very computer literate, is now asking for an admin user guide.
Does such a thing exist?

Hi,
My phorum (http://www.viroots.com/forum/phorum/list.php?f=8) has totally dissappeared. When I type in the admin extension it automatically logs me in on two seperate computers, and does not give me the option to log-out. It has no previous forums there and everything is gone. Can someone please tell me what happened and how this can be fixed.

I have an old version of Phorum 3 which I heavily customized in 2003 in order to provide an Open Peer Review Medical Journal at JOIMR.org

I haven't done anything to the website for ever so long (a year or so) and I just found out that the Admin account (or, indeed, the owner of the post) can no longer edit a post. New posts are posted OK, and Admin can delete them, but any attempt to edit a message does nothing. No harm to database, but no changes are saved either. Original message remains the same.

I set MySQL privileges to (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, DROP, REFERENCES, ALTER, CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES) and I have never changed this from 2003.

The server's host is still running Apache v1, but they have upgraded SQL and Apache versions during the past year. Can anybody suggest where I could start looking to fix this?

Hi again,

we have a forum just for Admins in the phorum 3.8.4a. You have to be a groupmember to post and read there, even if you are logged in as a "normal" user you cannot get into this forums. That's fine.

But if you use the search (search.php) and you search for anything, you will get the results even when you are a normal user! Ok, if you click on these postings you won't get into the forum but even the first lines may be just too much.

That's what I did to the "special" forums:
- added a group
- let permissionlevel to 0 (but even changing it to 6 gives the same results in search)
- added my moderators to this group
- added modder's forum
- set login to "Login required"
- set permission to groups only
- let permission level to 0 but even changed to 1 and "groups and levels" didn't chage something.
- set allowed groups to my moderators.

I also have read docs/usage.txt but this is same as I thought.
So may this be a bug in search.php?

I installed a Phorum ver? on May 1 2004 on one of my websites and messed around with it and created an ADMIN user.

then I left it alone.

well now I go back there and it won't accept my normal password, so I tried my other passwords and it won't take them either.

so I created a new user and then had it send me a new password and lo and behold I got an email "from" the ADMIN user I had created, but instead of ".com" it says ".cm"

So I can't type in the admin user's email to have it "send" me the password because it just goes somewhere and doesn't get to me. grrrrr.....

So I just want to know if it is worth it to poke around my files and if my ADMIN user name and "new" password are now stored in any of the files, it doesn't appear so.

The only reason I want to do this is that the Phorum WAS dormant and now has a couple of posts and I wanted to be able to Administer the Phorum in case it got "discovered", but if I can't get my ADMIN user back or change it, I will just have to wipe this Phorum and start over. Perhaps that is easier at this stage when there are only a few posts?

I'm assuming I have Phorum 3 but I can't tell.

Hi,

I run a phorum 3.1.8a with 1850 Users and as of today prople can't reply to postings sometimes. I shut down the forum to prevent it from getting false posting variables.

I found out that the p variable in the HTML output is set to 42 regardless to which posting is answered. Obviously it should contain the post id from the current posting.

We still run Phorum version 3, and we have now got a small problem. One user is complayning that he can not get any email-responses. I have checked just about everything. The only I can still think of is his email-adress. It is in the form xxx@xxx-xxxx.xx. In other words it contains a "-". Could this be the problem?
