Please find here attached the Slovenian language file (one is UTF-8 and the other is ANSI encoded) suitable for Phorum v. 5.2.4-RC2.

It may contain some translation strings from the older version of the Slovenian language file (v.5.0.21), found here: http://www.phorum.org/phorum5/read.php?17,55362

This is a quality translation, the improvements will be posted here in Phorum 5.2 Language Thread.

Posting here because I think it has to do with localization...

What I'm doing is adding diacritics to the Romanian translation. The diacritics go as HTML entities in the language file. Everything seems to go fine, except for a couple of buttons: "Post Message" (for reply both with and without quoting) and "Save Changes" (for edit message). For these two buttons, what should show as a Romanian character with a diacritic, shows as the entity name. I don't know how to show an example here, but if any of you gentlemen wants to see this in action, I can PM you the URL, username and password where it can be seen.

The page source shows

Am I doing something really dumb, or did I hit a bug here?! Any suggestions how to get around this?

Language file declaring a function crashes (8 replies)

Hello All,

Does anybody have any idea why a language file that defines a function (or includes another .php file) crashes? I'm experimenting with romanian.php; when I use it as is, everything is fine. But if I add a function to the file, as in:

function useless($str)
{
return str_replace("foo", "bar", $str);
}

$language="Romanian";
[snip]

then a number of pages come out blank (I noticed 'General Settings' and forum edit in the admin panel, and 'Forum Settings' in the user's control panel.) Note that I'm not even using the function, simply declaring it causes problems...

And btw, if I do use the function, it works. If I go down in the file and do something like:

"Activity" => useless("foo bar foobar"),
[snip]

I do get "bar bar barbar" displayed for "Activity".

The project was steadily advanced while I had taken my eyes off for about three years.

Ma version française de phorum 5.2.1.
désolé, je fonctionne sous iso-8859-1.

Bon, il y'a des imperfections et mes choix ne sont peut etre pas du gout de tout le monde.
cependant, si cela peut servir à quelques uns :)

EDIT : quelques corrections sur le fichier.
EDIT V2 : correction du string d'affichage de la date longue. Fichier mis à jour.

I've just edited into this message a new file (above), that increases the number of languages from the original 25 to 35.

Here are some of the notes I made to my cohorts by e-mail last night:

Looks like 35 languages, because InterTran isn't cooperating 100% with the Portuguese to Brazilian Portuguese translations. When I start inputting English too much, then I know the result will be way too corrupt (or comical) to be useful, and we are better off waiting for a good Brazilian soul to do it the right way.

But, Traditional Chinese is completed! Yay! I wanted that one. I want Farsi and Japanese and others too. But here we are. In due time.

The Korean is half English, by the way, and more English got added my putting it through the Phorum release update program--so I kept it that way, instead of going through trying to translate using the Google translator. Same principle--if there is too much auto-translating, the result will be too corrupt (or too funny to be serious).

The Asturian had a lot of English. This happens with the language files that applied more to the older Phorum software releases. More and more changes happen, more English phrases get generated, that don't get updated translations. So for Asturian, maybe I should have just worked the readily available English phrases in, but I decided to go with copying Spanish in from that language file. This tends to give a tri-lingual effect, because there are modules, like for the forum stats, that are in English only. So Asturians will have those in English, most in Asturian, and then a good chunk of the language in Spanish. The reason I went this way is that, when I had help from a friend, Evangelina Garcia De La Rosa (Eva Garcia in American English), in translating the forum subject titles into Spanish, she smiled when she saw that Catalan was included, like she loves Catalan. I bet that the same would apply to Asturian for some people. So in lieu of Asturian, Spanish.

Romanian was a cinch. Very complete. I think I auto-translated one sentence. Basque was a little tricky. Geez now I can't remember if I applied the same idea as I did with the Asturian.

Next step will be to get all the forums in all the languages up, which will include playing with Right-to-Left Hebrew and Arabic folders. After the forums, come the flags.

German Language Files Package 1.3

German language files for the Phorum core and frequently used modules. Offers three kind of forms of address and gender ("Sie", "Du" male and "Du" female).

Tested on version 5.1.23.

Free to use, modify, or redistribute this code so long as I am given credit for the original development somewhere. This code comes with absolutely no warranty.

Installation

- Install first all modules you want to use. See list of modules.

- Unpack the archive to your Phorum directory keep the directory structure. Override existing german language files.

If you want to translate a missing module to german, you'll have to do the following:

Copy from the directory docs/example_mods/example_language/lang/ the following files to the modules lang directory:
- german.php
- german-du-female.php and
- german-du-male.php

After this, copy and translate the strings from the english language file of the module.

If you have created a translation, please post a zip file containing the above mentioned files to the German Language Files Package thread at phorum.org, so the translation can be added to the package.

Changing text

If you want to change some text in the language files provided by this package use the included Language Support Module. It will be easier for you in the future to update the German Language Files Package if you don't merge your own text in our language files.

See examples in directory mods/language_support/lang.

Here are two language file packages for Phorum. Both contain a formal (u) and an informal (jij ) translation for Phorum, both in ISO-8859-1 and in UTF-8 encoding.

phorum-language-dutch-5.1.zip
This file contains language files that can be used for all Phorum 5 versions, up to the stable 5.1 release (5.1.15 at the time of writing). Most users will want to download this file and use the ISO-8859-1 encoded language file.

When I add a meta tag in english.php to see lithuanian characters in the messages, lithuanian characters dissapear from the forum title. When I remove the meta tag, lithuanian characters are displayed in the title but not in the messages. How could this be solved?

Hi,
I tried to modify the language file generated from the control console but the whole system stops working once i set a new language. I have already translated all the words to spanish.

I noticed that the file generated from the console is a little different from the default (English) language file from the default template. So I also tried to copy the original file form the template and renamed the file to something else with some translated words. This method also freezes the system.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
