Hi,

I use version 5.1.16a. It works well so I don't wish to upgrade (Like the Yankees says : if it ain't broken, don't fix it!).

Here is my problem. I have a lot of Chinese Spamers that actually register account and spam my forum. They go into the trouble of creating real email and validating there registration then post one or two messages that I flush quickly and neutralize there account. Then they start over again. Wasted there time does not seem to be an issue for them.

I know a solution. If I could have an add on module that could quarantine let say the first 10 message of any new members, the Spamers would be unable to post any message scrap on my forum.

Does such a module exist ? If not, can someone make one ? I'm willing to pay for it.

Thanks for you help,

Hi!

I don´t know when this error occurred - a user told me that he can´t see his avatar. When i go in my control center and try to get access to the avatar options, i got a hole site of errors:

Warning: getimagesize() [function.getimagesize]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /.../include/controlcenter/mod_user_avatar.php on line 63

3 weeks ago I had to put the hole phorum-installation to another server. I edited the new database-settings and all went fine. Does anybody has an idea where i can find a solution?
(Phorum v5.1.22, avatar-mod v2.2.0)

Line 63 in "mod_user_avatar.php" says:

I use an iframe
http://imageshack.us/iframe.php?txtcolor=111111&type=blank&size=30
with imageshack in the phorum's post.php. That way my users can pretty easily add pictures to their posts. But... as you know imageshack has some pop-up ads lately. What I always do is change the code so that the link goes straight to the image, instead of the html file which opens the image AND the ads.

[*URL=http://img150.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04928ui5.jpg][*IMG]http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5511/dsc04928ui5.th.jpg[*/IMG][*/URL]
(off course without the *'s)

Then becomes:
[*URL=http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5511/dsc04928ui5.jpg][*IMG]http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5511/dsc04928ui5.th.jpg[*/IMG][*/URL]

So the URL for the PAGE gets replaced with the URL for the THUMB, but without the ".th" in the URL.

Can a module be made which does this automatically? ps: Phorum 5.0.16 (I know, not the latest one)

I can find modules for 5.1 on the wiki page, but not for 5.0.
Unfortunately we cannot upgrade due to some reasons.

Are modules/plugins for 5.1 generally ok for 5.0 aswell?
Is there a list of 5.0 modules out there?
Should I just try the 5.1 moduels via try and error?

I want to create a mod that a moderator can use to store data in a custom user profile field. ie:
I've started a challenge forum that involves completing various challenges. When a user completes all chanllenges to get to level 1, a moderator can type a level status in an input box next to the user's post and adjust that user's custom profile field with the new status.

So:
I started by making a custom profile field, mod_userlevel

Then I tried to make a mod with this in it:

if(!defined("PHORUM")) return;

function mod_userlevel($messages){
	GLOBAL $PHORUM;
    foreach ($messages as $messageid => $message) {
        		$author = phorum_user_get($message["user_id"]);
				if (isset($author["mod_userlevel"])) {
					$messages[$messageid]["mod_userlevel"] = $author["mod_userlevel"];
				} else {
					$messages[$messageid]["mod_userlevel"] = "N00B";
				}

    }
    return $messages;
}

And tried to change my read.tpl so that it would show in each message for a specific forum:

IF MESSAGES->mod_userlevel}
       {IF MESSAGES->forum_id 9}
            <div class="PhorumReadBodyHead">PbP Rank: {MESSAGES->linked_author} is a <strong>{MESSAGES->mod_userlevel}</strong></div>
             {IF MODERATOR true}<input type="text" name="mod_userlevel" size="30" value="{PROFILE->mod_userlevel}" /><input type="submit" class="PhorumSubmit" value="Submit" />{/IF}
       {/IF}
{/IF}

but I am probably going about this entirely the wrong way, because right now, everyone is a n00b and my submit button doesn't work.
The docs I have for using custom profile fields don't show any php code to reference the custom fields, but only a template change example. I hope someone will explain to me what I need to do to finish this mod.

This module implements search by subject and some other features not in the standard Phorum search. I called it "flex_search" because the search form is flexible (can be customized) using the admin settings page. This version of the module works only with Phorum 5.125; a version for 5.2 is planned.

From the README.txt file, features include:
* Subject only search
* Author search with different fields (real name, author, username or email).
* Since / Until time range (e.g. from Jan 11 2003, to mar 13, 2003 11:10AM).
* Forum select (from a list of forums - as in 5.2)
* Threads / messages (as in 5.2)
* Display time of search
* Display SQL used to execute search and mysql explain of code.
* Option to remove wait page (page saying "Search is running. Please be patient").

Searches can be done using indexes on the messages table or the search table (an admin option). If using only the messages table, the search table is not needed. This can reduce the storage required for the forum by about half.

Installation instructions are in file README.txt.

Update 12/22/07: Based on feedback from a tester, I made some changes and uploaded a new version (v2). Any feedback is appreciated and will be used to improve this and the upcoming 5.2 version.

Hi Folks,
after updating our society forum to 5.1.25 i have some problems with the spamhurdles module.
On the admin panel everything's fine, but at the phorum frontend users are not able to post new topics or answers.
Why? Because Spamhurdles try to generate a gif CATCHA but you only see a "CAPTCHA" Box (see the attachment)
Wenn I switch the Spamhurdles module e.g. to "Solve a simple math captcha" the CAPTCHA is displayed but users see a error page which is generated by Spamhurdles that their post is identified as Spam...

What can i do? How can i solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I dont think I've seen such a thing, so I thought it'd be worth a quick post to guage interest in a template manager module.
Something similar to what vbulletin does:
--in the admin it shows the complete templates.
from any of the "base" templates, you can create a modified template. These "inherit" the individual templates from the parent and you edit the ones you wish.
you can go several levels...
for example, the base template might be "vbulletin 3.0 standard" below that would be "my site standard"
then below that you could further refine "my site green", "my site red", "my site blue".

you can select which templates users are allowed to select as their personal template.

So, phorum has some of this functionality, but it doesn't have the inheritence piece, online template editing, nor the user selction piece (unless this is included in 5.2 and I'm just not paying enough attention).

Hi,

I'm using Phorum for quite a time now, but this is my first post here, so - "hello everybody".

As our music phorum was growing and growing (http://forum.reggaenet.pl), new sub-forums were being added. Recently it turned out that we not only have a reggae board, but also sections for ethno music and dubstep, that are not interesting for some of our reggae users. They asked me for a module to hide forums, that one is not reading anyway and it's only messing up his screen ... so it comes.

As simple as it can be - users receive a checkbox list in their profile section, checked off forums are being hidden in the index list. Of course forums are still available and can be brought back to the list with a click :-)

Hope it helps someone, also I'm open to any suggestions regarding the code (although tried to follow the Phorum coding rules).

Best,

Hello out there,

this addon is the result of a request of a friend. He needed an addon that can create users via admincp. He can not programming with PHP so I started my work. I didn't read the module docs, so I didn't know how to write as a module - maybe I'll convert it to a module.

The addon allows you to add a user via admincp. It creates a random password and send all access datas to the specified email address.
You only have to add a link to your admincp links and you can use.

Screenshot

The first version was for 5.2 alpha, but my friend gots a problem, so he decide to change to stable. The 5.2-alpha version didn't work on 5.1, so I rewrote it. Now there's only a version for Phorum stable available. The 5.2-alpha version will follow soon. :)

If you find any bugs, please report.
I hope you'll like my little add-on. :)

This module implements the reCAPTCHA mailhide API. Background:

After some talk about reCAPTCHA, Spam Hurdles and the mailhide API elsewhere on these phorums, I decided to implement a basic mailhide module -- mostly as an exercise. But since I wrote it, I figured I might as well share it with the community.

Why do Phorum's URLs use comma-separated arguments? (2 replies)

Why do Phorum's URLs use comma-separated arguments? It makes it difficult, when writing add-ons, to use PHP functions like parse_str. AJAX libraries like jQuery and prototype tend to have functions that compose &-delimited query strings, too. So what's the advantage?

Module: Check a post for errors (4 replies)

This module will allow an admin to enter regular expressions to check for things they don't want posted in their forums. If a match is found, an error will be raised during the posting process. You can select to have subject, body or author checked or to have them all checked.

One example might be to try and stop posts with all capital letters in it.

^[A-Z \.!\?\(\)]+$

That regular expression matches any string that contains only those characters. So, if the subject for example contained only capital letters, spaces, and the punctuation .!?() it would match. Its not perfect, but this is a very flexible module for lots of uses.
