Hello,
Do you know if there's a Phorum module for members geolocation?
I did some search with keywords such as geolocation, geographic location, country, etc. but could not find anything.
The goal is the following:
My forum is dedicated to exotic plants, and people seeks advice on how to grow them. The advices are very specific to the region, so the idea would be to display the member's location based on his IP address.
This would be the default behavior of the module, but 2 options would be:
1. Each registered member should be able to disable the module (for obvious privacy reason).
2. Each registered member should be able to manually override the location, either because the geolocation does not work for his ISP, or he is travelling, or he wants advices for a region where he is not currently at the moment, etc.
If there's no such module, I'll try to write one when I'll have some time, but I prefer to ask first if there's already one of course :)
Also, please post here ideas or suggestions, such as:
1. Free service for IP to geolocation conversion
2. more features
etc
Thanks

Thomas,
The Google maps module is great, and I use it already. But as you said it requires manual setting by the user.
Maurice,
Thanks for the link. However, getting the country is not enough unfortunately, because it usually does not enable us to determine the weather conditions for the exotic plants culture.
I tried the services listed at the bottom of this page : [en.wikipedia.org]
Only the first one (maxmind) is more precise than the country: I get the town!
Does it work for you too?

Thomas,
Following your message, I had a careful read of their licensing terms.
The data for city level is not licensed under a free license (as in speech), but free as in beer provided some restrictions which will not apply in my case, because I will not redistribute it, nor advertise its use, nor use the maxmind term.
So I can use it for free, as could do most personal and/or open source projects. I would have preferred a free as in speech license, and will continue to seek for one, but I have a solution. That's great :)
I'll come back here when a module is ready (not soon I am afraid, but I will - except if someone else writes one before).
