I experienced it with the last version of Thomas module. I don't want to tease that listserver administrator another time and thought I might be able to proof these messages before I'll send them over to Oliver's module again.
Please read my above post for some clarification.
The only reason you need to push messages over to Oliver's module is IF you want the imported message sent back to the mailing list.
You probably did not have an endless loop, but rather a "double loop" as follows...
1. Author sends mail to mailing list.
2. Mailing List distributes to members, including pop3 phorummail account.
3. External Phorummail imports message to Phorum.
4. External Phorummail is set to push to the Mailing List Module.
5. Mailing List Module sends mail to the mailing list.
6. Mailing List distributes this duplicate message to members, including pop3 phorummail account.
7. External Phorummail imports message, recognized the header it set, and discards it into the air.
8. Cycle stops.
In the above scenario, the listserver administrator and members get 2 copies of every message posted, which would be very annoying for them. You can prevent this by NOT checking the push to Mailing List Module.

Thank you for you clarification, Robert! So, if I don't choose the option "Push to Mailinglist" will then the replies to the imported messages be distributed via the Mailinglist module? Thanks again!
Yes.
If a user is participating via the mailing list, the External Phorummail email account is a member of that list and imports the messages to phorum. The action stops here. (there is no need to push to the mailing list module, because the activity is taking place on the mailing list, and phorum is simply "archiving" a copy of those messages).
Now if someone comes along and posts on the web at your phorum, and not through the email list, the message, after being posted, will be sent to the mailing list via Oliver's module, which will mail it to the mailing list (and when phorummail imports via the pop3 account it uses that is a "member" of the list, it recognizes that the message originated with phorum to begin with, and discards it, since the original message is already there in the phorum to begin with).
Your users then have 2 options, participate via email by emailing the mailing list email address, or on the web at phorum itself.

For extra clarification...
External Phorummail imports activity taking place on a mailing list, so that a copy resides on your phorum installation.
Mailing List Module exports activity taking place on your phorum, so that people on the mailing list get a copy.
The only reason to have phorum Push to Mailing List Module, is for weirdos like me that have mailing list replies sent to the pop3 account, and not the mailing list email address.

I noticed these warnings generated by the Event module.
Language: PHPUser info: Anonymous user User IP address = Additional details: Message: PHP notice: Undefined variable: attachments PHP notice generated at .../mods/ext_phorummail/ext_phorummail.php:375 Back trace: Function phorum_ext_phorummail_run called at {path to Phorum}/mods/ext_phorummail/ext_phorummail.php:97

Probably just means that there are no attachments, thus it is undefined. Perhaps I'll be corrected here though.
There is stuff being logged in my event module all the time, including this error and that. But my phorum and all it's features are working just fine, so I ignore them.

Re: Module: External Phorummail : New messages turned "old" October 15, 2010 10:31AM |

I could not replicate this issue I experienced this morning when I read an imported message, went back to the message list and noticed that the majority of "new" messages had suddenly turned "old". I was not sure whether this might be a general question but it only happened to me this time with imported messages.
