I upgraded from 3 to 5 and it worked flawlessly.. It has been running for two days no problems.. I changed a the threading view from 30 to 10 and now my pages are blank...

Don't know whether this is the right place to post such question but I have a small issue as follows: I have a forum which is dedicated to Dubai. We would like now to duplicate one for Abu Dhabi. For this we will have two separate domain address but somehow wish that users who are registered in the Dubai one can also access with same credentials on the Abu Dhabi one without having to register again. Is this a dream or somehow feasible to achieve?

Is there a way to have the author name auto fill with "anonymous" when left blank? I've seen some software that does this but I am not sure how to implement it on Phorum. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. :-)

What would be the next debugging step if a template remains empty? After the template "cc_groupmod" in groupmod.php is called, the CC remains empty except the menu. The data show up correctly before the call. I can't find anything in the PHP error log. Sorry for the odd question!

Not sure what went wrong and my tech guy has disappeared to the delivery room with his wife. He's been busy all week and said he was going to look at it but apparently never got a chance before all of his time disappeared. I presume he got some advice on a cache program to use here previously. That program didn't seem to work on the new server. He replaced it with another. What would a cache file dislike about a new server?

Microsoft Outlook 2010 strips out content of PM emails (no replies)

Hi all,

I sent a PM mail but outlook 2010 users only get the subject line. The message is 8KB, seems like that is more than a subject line. Thunderbird and Outlook 2007 email users on the same email network see the PM messages just fine.

Has anyone else encountered this?

We've looked into the security settings in Outlook 2010, and I'm searching the Microsoft site.

Any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

Ok I'm almost positive I read something about this somewhere already but for the life of me I can't find it.

I install a template (which I think of as a theme *shrugs*) and it applies to the main forum page but not the others.

How do I fix this?

I use firefox and normally misspelled words get red underlining so I can correct them. This isn't working on my forum in the composition boxes and such, but it works here.

So forum's with changes goto the top. Awesome, that makes sense. But what if I have more than one sticky and I want them to appear in a certain order?

Is there a module or setting for this?

I've not used phorum for a couple of versions. Am I correct in saying the default templates makes extensive use of tables for layout?

Is there a default template which doesn't have tables for layout in the markup?

I am very new to phorum as a developper and I have a problem implementing a custom hook that will work with my module. I am working on the version 5.2.18
I am trying to make a test module that will be able to hook in template.

This is my info.txt

Now I expect (according to my understanding of the documentation) the list.php to display "HelloWorld!" instead of the authors nick, however it does not display it. The nick just disapears.

Where am I doing wrong?

What a useless error message. How about some indication as to why the connection failed. Might just as well have said "Herpa derp, something dunt werk. Can I has a fix?"

Where is Threaded/Flat stored in the Database? (10 replies)

Hi,

I'm currently facing a problem with Phorum that some threads are displayed "flat" even though the category's set to "threaded/hybrid" view. So it happens that some threads within the same category are displayed correctly ( = threaded/hybrid) and some are flat.

Due to the fact that this occurred in about 50% of all posts since I've installed a new Phorum and just imported an SQL dump of the old Phorum version I was running before I wanted to fix this with a DB query. But I don't find a flag whatsoever that is responsible for this occurrence - or did I get something wrong about that hybrid stuff and everything works as it should?
Every category has the exact same flat/thread/hybrig-setting in the Database.

The length of the threads has no influence on the flat/threaded display, some short threads are displayed correct and some long are too, but vice-versa it's the same...

Anyone got an idea?

Hi phorum,

I'm new here from Frankfurt, Germany. Found phorum a couple of weeks ago searching for forums enabling both flat and threaded structure. Wow, hundreds of mods. A challenge ;-)

I'm okay with HTML, and search my way through javascript, php, or the phorum.tpls ;-)

For a start, please allow me a presumably very stupid newbie-question concerning the display-structure of the forums:
I would like to have sub-categories like here in the support-forum (official, add-ons, languages, outdated) without having to click on folders to show their sub-forums. I use a modified copy of Emerald-template. I tried "folders" and "root" in the admin-section, but sub-categories wouldn't show like here in the support-forum.

Is there a mod I've overseen so far? Or another hint?

I'm entering users and Phorum is telling me that the email that I'm entering is not valid. It is in the standard user@domain.com format so I don't know what the problem is. The domain is valid because I've checked it (it is a work e-mail address). What could be the problem?

Recently my web host temporary suspended my account "because mass mail is strictly prohibited by our Terms Of Service" and added

They show that the emails are being send via php, so you should check your scripts and settings for the availability to send emails.

I make it no secret that I am all antsy over the impending release of 5.3, and I am curious as to what new features we can expect. I remember seeing a post with the new avatar mod that makes the process for users to add an avatar much easier on them. I also think I remember hearing that Private Messages would be displayed in linear format, much like the linear view of topics in the forum.

What other goods are in store for us?

Hello,

I have some forum settings in which a user is allowed to edit his post. However, whenever the user tries to save the message, an error message pops up indicating insufficient rights or timeout.

The only right that users do not have is the option to attach files, all other options (read, reply, create, edit) are enabled

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

We are using phorum version 3.4.8a and I looking for help with an issue.
When users check the option to have replies to a topic emailed to them the emails sent by phorum show the email address of user who replies to the topic. We have had some complaints about this since many users choose not to show their personal emails in their profile. Is there a way to insert a no reply email address instead of the users email address?

Is there a way to hide the poster's emails in replies?

Phorum DB Destroyed (5 replies)

A few days ago a forum that I maintain was destroyed. The phorum database tables were reset to a default new installation - the table structure was there with generic data. The phorum scripts in the web space were all intact, however. This appears to have been a malicious act but some unknown person. There are only 2 people with admin access, the forum owner and myself. No updates were being done at the time, forum was at the latest version, 5.2.18.

I restored the database from a backup and it's back online now. However, where should I look for vulnerabilities to prevent this from happening again?

Is there's a way I can get notified automatically on every new topic / new reply that users have created rather than having to click on each "follow topic" every time I find new posts?
Only admin (myself) can get notified via email.

Hi,

I have the latest install of Phorum. I can attach files (PDF, JPGs etc) to a reply. When I click the open or download buttons in the posted message, I am taken to the main forum page. If I right click on the buttons, to save target as, I'm seeing index.php ...has this happened to anyone else?

I know it is not the browser (IE9) because I can download files from this Phorum site.

Any suggestions?

RSS feeds - Chrome and IE9 (2 replies)

Hi,

1. With IE9, I can right-click on the RSS icon, copy RSS shortcut and add to Microsoft Outlook's RSS folder successfully, but I cannot just select the RSS icon and click add to FEEDs, because it is looking for https instead of http?

2. With the latest version of Chrome, when I right-click on the RSS icon I do not see the copy shortcut - so I tried clicking the icon directly, and I get the following message:

BUG: Vanishing Posts (3 replies)

I do not allow my moderators to delete post. I have accomplished this by assigning moderators to a group, and members of that group cannot see the delete message links in the .tpl files wherever they may occur. As an alternative, they can Split the post and then Move it to a forum that nobody else can see. We call this the "Recycle Bin" forum.

The purpose of this is that if I disagree with the action taken, I can restore the post to the topic.

Well, it seems that if 2 different moderators are splitting and moving the same post to the "Recycle Bin" at the same time, the post gets deleted. This happened just like this today. They were discussing what to do with the post, and agreed to split it off and move it to the hidden forum to await permanent deletion by me. Apparently they both went to do so at the same time, and now the post cannot be recovered.

I've even looked for it using MyPHPadmin and it does not exist anymore.
